Weekly Roundup Sunday 15 January - Mens & Ladies Results

Saturday’s scorcher made a significant impact on our field with a much smaller field taking to the course for Saturday’s Stableford event and only two groups braving the afternoon conditions.

One of those afternoon golfers David Collins found the warmer conditions to his liking posting a round of 38 points.

David set up his round with a flurry of five consecutive pars starting on the par 3 third hole as he registered 20 points on the front nine before adding another 18 on the homeward leg.

That 18 points was enough to get David across the line in a countback from Ed McQuienn who had scored 38 points earlier in the day.

A countback was also required in B grade with Ron Dixon and Ian Scurrah, both scoring 37 points in the morning round with Ron getting the nod in the countback.

The forecast of 40 degrees was just a little too warm for our ladies with no ladies’ comp on the day.

Balls went to Daryl Harrison with 37 points, Pooch McHale (36), Graeme Harrison (36) and Mick Gallivan (36).

Nearest the Pin trophies were won by John McHale (A grade 3rd), Gordon Mackay (A grade 12th), Ron Dixon (B Grade 12th) and John Burrows (voucher on 15).

Another decent field for Tuesday’s comp with Gordon Mackay the A grade winner with 38 points in a count back from Peter Noble.

Tuesday specialist Gary Jurey was the B grade winner with 35 points and Les Hall won a countback from Kerry Kreeck for runner up with 34 points.

Balls went to Daryl Harrison (37), Peter Mangan (36), David Collins (35) and Bud Thorsen (34).

Daryl Harrison and Neville Vicary won the A & B grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd while the voucher on the 15th was unclaimed.

Our Pennant team could not match it with Hill Top at Merrigum on Sunday going down 3-1-1 with the match results as follows:

Peter Blackmore & Lawrie Casey won 1up

Daryl Harrison & Ed McQuienn halved their match

David Collins & Gordon Mackay lost 5 & 4

Paul Dickens & Dylan Gallivan lost 3 & 2

Ash & Paul Kuiper lost 3 & 2

Finally, Valley View lost another long-standing member last week in Jeannette Connally and our member’s sincerest condolences go out to Leo and the Connally family.

Ladies results - Wed 11 January

With the temperature predicted to be 36 degrees last Wednesday, a small field played a nine holes competition.
After an injury layoff, Liz Haw scored an excellent 21 points to show that she has not lost her touch. Liz said the highlight of her round was her first ever birdie on the second hole.
Three players scored 17 points. Robyn Norton made it on to the podium this week after winning the count back from Jan McHale and Janice Johnstone.
Once again our flag was at half mast this week as we mourned the passing of Jeanette Connally. Whether on the course, or in the Club House, Jeanette always brought fun and laughter to our golf days. She loved her golf and was a great contributor at Valley View. We send our condolences to her family and friends.
