Weekly Roundup - Mens & Ladies results 22 January 2023

Saturday 21.1.23

Brilliant rounds from Paul Dickens and our President, Mick McAuliffe, are the headline acts from Saturday’s Stableford round, the third in the Summer Cup series.

We will start with Dickens whose personal best round of 85 off the stick yielded him a Stableford score of 43 points and he can expect his 20 handicap to have dwindled somewhat when he collects his next card.

Starting on the 13th Dicko scorched around the back nine with a four over 40 (24 points) and followed that up with a consistent front nine of 45 for 19 points giving him a comfortable five shot win in B grade from Ron Dixon with 38 points.

Playing off a handicap of 8 President Mick McAuliffe was also in red hot form with a round of 77 off the stick for a stableford score of 39 points.

As with Dicko, Mick also found conditions on the south side of the course to his liking with a back nine of one under 35 that featured birdies on the par four 10th and 13th holes.

Mick finished two shots ahead of the A grade runner up in Peter Noble who has been in good nick in recent weeks and finished Saturday’s round with 37 points.

Some goods scores from the ladies as well with Jan McHale the winner with 39 points from Wanda Hacon with 37 points.

Ball comp winners were Nev Vicary with 37 points, Rory Kerr (37), Anne Hawking (35), Kerry Kreeck (35), Peter Costello (35) and Baden Thorsen (35).

Nearest the Pin winners were Kelly Cheong (A grade 3rd), Mick McAuliffe (A grade 12th), Rory Kerr (B grade 3rd), Jim Hind (B grade 12th) and Dylan Gallivan (voucher 15th).

Rory’s NTP on the 3rd finished within 40cm of the cup and earned him a dozen jackpot balls before he tapped in for his birdie. What’s more his shot must have had some sort of spin on it judging from the size of the divot that it left just short of the cup.

Tuesday 17.1.23

There were more good scores on Tuesday with Bud Thorsen winning A grade with 39 points from Kevin Humbert with 38.

Jim Hind was the B grade winner with an excellent round of 40 points from Jeff “Cobba” Carnie with 37 points in a count back from Ian Scurrah who had to settle with a ball from the ball comp.

Other ball comp winners were Graeme Harrison (37), Daryl Harrison (37) and John Burrows with 36 in a count back from Nobby.

Daryl Harrison had a good day as he also took home the A grade nearest the pin on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th.

Pennant: Another 3-1-1 result for our Pennant team at Hill Top on Sunday with this one going Valley View’s way away in the tie against Merrigum-Rushworth.

Match results were as follows:

Ash Kuiper & Paul Dickens won 5 & 3

David Collins & Gordon MacKay won 4 & 3

Miles Gould & Mick Coyne won 3 & 2

Pete Blackmore & Robin Quinn halved their match

Daryl Harrison & Dylan Gallivan got to the lunch buffet early after a 7 & 6 loss

SCOOP

Ladies - Wednesday 18.1.23

Maybe it was the heavy rain the night before that led to lower scores at Valley View last Wednesday. Gill Thorsen was surprised to be announced the winner in the Stableford event. Gill's three points on the 18th hole took her to 33points and a win by two points.
Once again there was a three way count back to decide the runner up after Sharon Harrison, Jan McHale and Judy Greer all finished on 31 points. Sharon won the count back.
