Weekly Round up - Mens & Ladies - 29/1/2023

Saturday’s Stableford round produced some very good scores with B grade winner Peter Sherman the headline act with 41 points.

Starting on the ninth hole Peter had a solid back nine of 17 points before taking all before him on the front nine with 24 points which included six three pointers.

Peter finished five shots ahead of the B grade runner up in Michael Sheehan who finished with 36 points and snatched the runner’s up trophy in a count back from Geoff Strachan.

In A grade Peter Mangan, playing off a handicap of 13 put together an excellent round of 39 points to grab a one-point win from Pooch McHale who also had an excellent round of 38 points from a handicap of ten.

The scoring was not quite as good in the ladies with Jan McHale the winner with 34 points and Marlene Topp the runner up with 29 points

Lawrie Casey (36 points), Mick McAuliffe (36), Strachannie (36), Kelly Cheong (35), Ian Scurrah (35) and  Gavon Armstrong (35) all picked up balls in the ball comp.

The hard luck story in the ball comp was David Collins who started his round from the fourth tee with six pars on the trot (and finished his round on the 3rd with a par) but missed out on a ball in a count back after finishing his round with 35 points also.

Nearest the Pin trophies went home with Kevin Bauerle (A grade 3rd), Ray Brereton (B grade 3rd) and Les Hall (voucher on 15).

Tuesday: The Harrison family dominated Tuesday’s event with Graeme the A grade winner with 41 points (handicap 16) from Daryl who is currently playing off eight) with a score of 37 points.

In B grade Alan Curnow was a one-shot winner with 37 points from Jim Hind with 36 points.

Balls in the ball comp went to David Collins with 36 points, Dylan Gallivan (35), Bud Thorsen (35), Steve March (35) and Peter Noble (35).

Peter Blackmore (A grade) and Jim Hind (B) won Nearest the Pin balls on the third.

Our Pennant team enjoyed a good 4 ½ win against Numurkah at Valley View on Sunday.

Match results were:

David Collins & Gordon Mackay won 4&3

Ash & Paul Kuiper won 5&4

Lawrie Casey & Peter Blackmore won 3&2

Ed McQuienn and Mick Coyne won 3&1

Paul Dickens and Dylan Gallivan halved their match.

The win has the team well placed with a 3-1 record with two rounds left after they have a bye next week.

Finally, an update on the Summer Cup table standings and with the March round to play, Paul Dickens round of 43 points last week has given him a solid lead with a three-round total of 113 points.

The top five contenders (remembering that a player’s best three rounds out four provide his Summer Cup total) are as follows:

Paul Dickens:      33 – 37 – 43 = 113

Kelly Cheong      40 – 35 – 33 = 108

Geoff Strachan  38 – 40 – 28 = 106

Mick McAuliffe 39 – 36 – 39 = 104

Peter Noble        34 – 31 – 37 = 102

Geoff Strachan would look the best placed to upset Dicko as he has a 28 point round that would drop off with a half decent score in the final round.

LADIES - Wednesday

Stableford competitions of 18 holes and nine holes were played by the Valley View women last Wednesday.
A count back was required in both competitions. In the 18 holes event Janice Johnstone was the winner from Leanne Busch, when both finished with 36 points. In the nine holes event 14 points was the best result with Robyn Norton winning the count back from Leonie McMaster-Smith.
Australia Day - The Women's Match and handicap committee hosted a Stableford event on Australia Day. Lindsay Tatterson had the stand out score for the day to claim the men's event with 36 points from runner up Peter Sherman on 33 points.

The women's event was won by Marlene Topp on 27 points from Jenni Bauerle.
