Jeff Carnie has started 2023 in style with a blistering round of 87-20-67 to claim the January Monthly Medal, his second medal win inside 12 months.

On a perfect day for golf the man they call “Cobba” (or should I say calls everyone else “Cobba”) held off the day’s A grade winner in Peter Blackmore who finished one shot back in the race for the medal with a round of 83-15-68.

The B grade runner up Peter “Penguin” Nelson was another shot back with 100-31-69 while Mick Gallivan was the A grade runner up with 85-15-70 to round out a very tight leader board.

Sharon Harrison won the ladies’ comp with 98-23-75 from Judy Greer who’s round of 99-23-76 was good enough to win the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Marlene Topp with 114-35-76.

On the best scoring day in a long while balls in the ball comp went to Mick McAuliffe (Nett 71), John McHale (71), Mark Ciavarella (71), Kelly Cheong (72), Peter Mangan (72) and Rod Breen (72).

Best gross score balls went to Mick McAuliffe with 79 off the stick, Jeff Carnie in B grade and Sharon Harrison (ladies).

Nearest the Pin trophies went to:

TUES 3 JAN

A field on Tuesday good enough for two grades with John McHale the A grade winner with 36 points from Daryl Harrison, Robin Quinn and Mick Gallivan all with 34 points - the countback going Daryl’s way.

Gary Jurey was a clear winner in B grade with 39 points from Geoff Squires and Tom Mangan with 33 points each and the countback falling in favour of Squizzy.

Balls went to Robin Quinn and Mick Gallivan with their 34 points, along with Kevin Humbert 33 and Geoff Strachan 32.

Daryl Harrison won the A grade nearest the pin on the 3rd and Tom Mangan won the voucher on the 15th.

 A 3-1-1 winning result for our pennant team to open the 2023 Summer Pennant season against Kialla-Cosgrove at Shepparton on Sunday.

LADIES RESULTS WED 4 JANUARY

Despite the very strong wind, cooler weather enticed keen Valley View golfers back to the course last Wednesday. Sadly the flag was at half mast following the passing of two of our past members, Doris Vick and Shirley Casey. Both women were great contributors at Valley View and we send our condolences to their families and friends.
Stableford was the game for the day. Suffice to say it not every day that a golfer scores five points on one hole when playing Stableford, but Robyn Norton did just that when she birdied the par 4 fourth hole with an excellent chip in from near the men's fifth tee. Alas for Robyn those five points were not enough to help her make it to the podium. That honour went to Marlene Topp and Bev Lyon who both finished on 34 points. Marlene won the count back.
