Weekly Roundup - Mens & Ladies results - 11/2/2023
Saturday’s final round of the Summer Cup provided some solid if unspectacular scores, certainly none good enough to topple Paul Dickens from the top of the Summer Cup Table although 33 points from Geoff Strachan got him within two points of Dicko.
The day’s best score of 37 points came from Ian “Tommy” Scurrah which gave him a two-shot win in B grade from Alan Curnow with 35 points.
In A grade the erratic Paul Kuiper was able to get his gentle fade under control to post a round of 36 points and record a one shot win from a trio of players in Bud Thorsen, The Good Kuiper (Ash) and Kevin Humbert who all had 35 points.
A back nine of 21 points (42 off the stick) got Thorsen the runner’s home trophy from a very unlucky Ash Kuiper whose back nine of 20 points (37 off the stick) would have got the job done in a count back nine times out of ten.
Clare Kerr was the ladies’ winner with 36 points from Jan McHale with 35 points in another close contest.
Ball comp winners were the aforementioned Ash Kuiper and Kevin Humbert (35 points) along with David Collins, Mick Gallivan, Peter Wanless, Michael Sheehan and Peter Mangan with 34 points.
Nearest the Pin trophies went to Ash Kuiper and Michael Sheehan (3rd), Dylan Gallivan and Ron Dixon (12th), Helen Armstrong (3rd) and Daryl Harrison who won the voucher on the 15th just two holes after eagling the par four 14th.
Thirty-five points only got Kevin Humbert a ball on Saturday, but on Tuesday that was good enough for him to win A grade by two shots from Runner Up Kevin Bauerle, Pooch McHale and Peter Mangan all with 33 points.
Bamawm’s Frank Coonerty had his first win at Valley View with 39 points, taking out B grade from John Burrows with 37 points.
Balls went to Geoff Strachan, Ian Scurrah and Jeff Carnie with 34 points and Pooch McHale and Peter Mangan with 33 points.
Another Bamawm player in Sam Newth won the A grade nearest the pin ball, the B grade NTP went to Phil Plumb while Peter “Nobby” Noble won the voucher on the 15th with the results sheet clearly noting that he made his putt for birdie.
Our Pennant team had another good win on Sunday defeating Nagambie at Nagambie 3-2.
The Kuiper boys capped off a good weekend with a 6&5 win, Ed McQuienn and Daryl Harrison won 3 & 2 while Miles Gould and Lawrie Casey finished 1 up.
David Collins and Gordon Mackay lost 4 & 3 and Paul Dickens and Barry Scott (who answered the call up from the captain at short notice) lost 3 & 1.
The win keeps them in touch of a spot in the final with one round to play.
SCOOP
Wednesday Ladies - There is no doubt golf results can be surprising at times. Last Wednesday's 4BBB Stableford draw for partners was no exception.
When odd numbers of players arrive to play in a draw for partners, the player with the lowest handicap is allocated two partners in the random draw.
As the lowest handicapper, Leanne Busch was paired with Marlene Topp and Tracey Wade.
The surprise? Both pairs finished on 44 points which just happened to be the best score of the day. A count back separated the pairs with the Busch/Topp combination taking the winners' vouchers and the Busch/Wade combination being declared runners up.
