Weekly Roundup - Mens & Ladies results 26/2/2023

Sunday Pennant: It was a big weekend for the club and our Pennant Team which had an excellent 4-1 against Hill Top in the Summer Pennant final at Numurkah on Sunday.

Match results from the final were:

Ed McQuienn and Lawrie Casey won 5 & 4

Gordon Mackay and David Collins won 2 & 1

Dylan Gallivan and Paul Dickens won 2 & 1

Miles Gould and Mick Coyne won 4 & 3

Ash “the Good” Kuiper and Paul Kuiper lost 5 & 4

Congratulations to David Collins, Miles Gould (one of whom was the team captain) and the rest of the team that took us to victory in the final along with regular contributor Daryl Harrison (who missed the final with a crook back) and Robin Quinn, Peter Blackmore, Barry Scott and Mick Gallivan who all represented the club during the season.

Saturday: To regular programming now and after last week’s Par event our golfers were back in the comfort zone on Saturday with yet another Stableford event.

Paul Dickens, who with a handicap of 18 recently joined the A Grade ranks, wasted no time in picking up his first A grade voucher with an excellent round of 39 points and he finished three shots clear of Kelly Cheong who took home the runner’s up trophy with 36 points.

In B grade Brendan Cornwall, playing off 30,  had a massive score of 44 points and had plenty of points to spare with Jeff Carnie the runner up with 35 points in a count back from Alan Curnow.

Trudy Denham was the ladies’ winner with 37 points while another countback was required to separate Helen Emery, Clare Kerr and Marlene Topp who all finished with 35 points with Helen taking the runner’s up trophy.

Balls went to Mick Gallivan, Clare Kerr, Toppy, Alan Curnow (all 35), Dylan Gallivan, Lawrie Casey and Kevin Humber (each with 34).

Dylan Gallivan (A grade) and Ian Scurrah (B) picked up Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd, as did Brendan Cornwall on the 12th and the voucher on the 15th went home with Paul Dickens to cap of a profitable day for him.

Tuesday: Our President (and part time touring golfer) Mick McAuliffe was Tuesday’s A grade winner with 35 points in a count back from Kelly Cheong who claimed the first of his two runner’s up trophies for the week.

Gavon Armstrong had the best round of the day with 37 points and that was good enough for a win in B grade from Jeff Carnie who had 34 points and also finished the week with two runner’s up trophies.

Kevin Humber (34), Nobby (34), Graham Pawley (34), Gordon Mackay (33) and Graeme Harrison (33) all won balls while Peter Mangan (3rd) and Nobby (15th) picked up Nearest the Pin trophies.

 SCOOP

Wednesday - Ladies Results: The final round of summer golf was played last Wednesday and fine conditions saw a good roll up for the scheduled Par event.
Count backs were required in both A and B Grades.
A three way count back was required in A Grade when 3 players finished one down. Julie Neale parred the last two holes and was declared the winner from runner up Marilyn West when the count back went down to the last three holes. Jan McHale was the unlucky player who came in third.
In B Grade, Captain Helen Armstrong continued her fine run of form to win the count back from Gill Thorsen, when both finished two up.
Nearest the pins proved illusive on the third hole. I suspect players will be happy when the shorter 15th hole becomes the nearest the pin hole from today.
Players are reminded to get their teams organised for the Menzies Bowl which will be on Thursday 16th of March. We look forward to a good roll up of teams from across the Goulburn Murray District.
