(amended)

Saturday: Valley View fashion aficionado Graeme “Harro” Harrison has added the March Monthly Medal shirt to his trend setting wardrobe with a round of 87-15-72 on Saturday.

The House of Harrison founder took the medal in a countback from the less fashion-conscious (yet neatly attired) Mick Coyne who posted a round of 83-11-72 and had to settle for the A grade runner’s up trophy.

The word on the street is that when Harro wins a new shirt he likes to reward himself with a pair of new shorts to match and so we look forward to seeing him in his new ensemble in the coming weeks.

The two A graders finished one shot ahead of B grade winner Ian Scurrah who had a round of 100-27-73 and Kelly Cheong who finished with 82-9-73.

Three players finished a further shot back with rounds of Nett 74 and they were B grade runner up Rory Kerr (93-19-74), Alan Curnow (94-20-74) and Ed McQuienn (82-8-74).

Ed and Alan picked up balls in the ball comp for their efforts while Ed and Rory’s scores also won them best gross score balls.

In the ladies’ comp Nat McAuliffe had a win on her Saturday debut with 111-40-71 while Janice Johnstone was runner up (94-23-71) on a count back with a 71 nett.

Other ball comp winners were Wanda Hacon (nett 75) and Bud Thorsen, Dylan Gallivan, Helen Emery and Marilyn West all with Nett 76.

Nearest the Pin trophies went to Ed McQuienn (A grade – 3rd), Shane Wolfe (B grade 3rd), Von Morris (3rd), Helen Emery (12th) and Rory Kerr (15th).

The Alan Hausler NAGA awards were “won” by Peter Nelson and Sharon Harrison.

Tuesday: Our President Mick McAuliffe has been shedding shots from his handicap at a great rate recently and on Tuesday he put together some sort of round with a score 39 points from a handicap of just seven.

Mick finished three shots ahead of Kelly Cheong who is currently playing off nine and finished with 36 points.

Mick cleaned up, also taking home the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th.

It was a good start to the week for Ian Scurrah , he took the first of his two B grade winner’s trophies for the week with 36 points.

Ron Dixon and Jeff Carnie fought out a countback for B grade runner up with 36 points with Ron taking home the voucher.

Ball comp winners were Jeff Carnie and Pooch McHale with 36 points, Gordon Mackay (35), our other Valley View fashion Guru in David Collins (34) and Lindsay Tatterson (34).

SCOOP

Wednesday Ladies: The winter golf season at Valley View began in fine conditions last Wednesday. Sponsored by Australian Consolidated Milk(ACM), players competed in a Stroke round for the Monthly Medal.
Tracey Wade 90-18-72, had an excellent round to win A Grade from runner up, Leanne Busch  88-14-74, whose 88 off the stick also won her the Scratch event. Jan McHale was nearest the pin.
In B Grade, Gill Thorsen 99-27-72 was the winner of both the Nett and Scratch events, with Clare Kerr 102-27-75 runner up in the Nett event. Anne Hawking was nearest the pin.
The putting competition was won by Helen Emery on a count back from Robyn Norton.
Congratulations to Gill Thorsen who claimed the Monthly Medal on a count back from Tracey Wade.
Each year long time club member Anne Churches presents the Rising Star Award to the player who has lowered her handicap by the biggest margin in the previous 12 months. This year's winner Clare Kerr, is definitely a player of the future having reduced her handicap by from 33 to 28.4 a feat which is not easy with the current handicapping system. Congratulations Clare.
