Weekly Roundup 7/5/2023

A big week at Valley View with our H&G Real Estate Annual Tournament contested over Friday (4BBB Stableford) and Saturday (Stroke).

The Annual Tournament kicked off on Friday with some excellent 4BBB scores and none better than the 46 points (23 points on each nine) put together by Peter Noble and Graeme Harrison as they took out the event by one shot from the Echuca pairing of Graham Pawley and Jim Hind who finished with 45 points and took out the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Les Hall and Geoff Squires.

The ladies also took it up a notch with Leanne Busch and Wendy Cox putting together a score of 44 points to claim a one-shot win from Marie Watt and Marg Smerdon with 43 points.

Balls went to Les Hall and Geoff Squires (45 points), Peter Mangan and Paul Kuiper (42) and Kevin Humbert and Jeff Carnie (42).

Nearest the Pin trophies went to Miles Gould, Alan Hausler and Marg Smerdon (3rd), Peter Noble and Les Hall (12th) and Paul Kuiper (15th).

A strong southerly made scoring tougher for Saturday’s stroke event with the evergreen Kevin Bauerle recording the day’s best round of 84-14-70 taking out A grade by one shot from Ash Kuiper with (75-4-71).

Post round Ash was able to dip into the Eagles Nest after chipping in for an eagle three on the par five 8th.

Young Wil Harrison notched up yet another win in B grade with 105-34-71 as he continues to reduce his handicap on an almost weekly basis.

Craig Larcombe emerged from a dramatic form slump to post a round of 95-23-72 and take out the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Johnny Heywood (97-25-72).

A four- way count back to find the ladies winner was almost too much for our duty team but ultimately were able to confirm Marie Watt as the winner with 112-33-79 from runner up Anne Hawking (108-29-79), Marlene Topp (111-32-79) and the almost forgotten Leonie McMaster-Smith (116-37-79).

Johny Heywood (Nett 72), Bud Thorsen (73), Les Hall (74), Peter Mangan (75) and John Neale (75) won balls.

Nearest the Pin trophies went to Ash Kuiper, Alan Hausler and Leonie-McMaster Smith (3rd), Mick McAuliffe (12th) and Marlene Topp (15th).

Alan Curnow also picked up a round of drinks after drilling his birdie putt on the ninth.

A very big thank you to our tournament sponsor, H&G Real Estate, for its generous sponsorship of the event.

Scoring was excellent on Tuesday as well with Peter Mangan posting the excellent score of 41 points and he recorded a two-shot win in A grade from Mick McAuliffe with 39 and I know Mango is looking forward to reading this week’s report. It’s a shame his round has been buried below the Annual Tournament results!

Ian Morrow won B grade, also with 41 points, and Danny Sinclair was the runner up with a round of 37 points.

Balls went to Les Hall (35), Pooch McHale (35), Kevin Humbert (33) and Alan Hausler (33).

Mick McAuliffe and Ron Dixon (3rd) and David Collins (15th) took home the Nearest the Pin trophies.
