Weekly Roundup 14/5/2023

SATURDAY: A big week on the practise range was just what the doctor ordered for Lenny Threlfall who turned around last week’s NAGA form 180 degrees to take out his first monthly medal on Saturday.

Lenny won the May medal along with B grade and the B grade best gross score ball with his round of 95-25-70

He finished one shot clear of an unlucky John Burrows who was the club house medal leader with a round of 98-27-71 until the very final group, including Lenny, handed in its cards relegating John to the B grade runner-up.

A three-way countback was needed to find our A grade winner with Bud Thorsen emerging from the tiebreaker as the winner with 89-17-72 from runner up Mick Coyne (82-10-72) and Ash Kuiper (76-4-72).

Ash picked up a ball in the ball comp for his round as well as the ball for best gross score overall.

It was a good day for the Thorsen family as Gill also took out the ladies’ comp posting a round of 101-26-75 which was two shots better than runner up Marie Watt (110-33-77) who took that trophy in a count back from Jenni Bauerle whose round of 94-17-77 won her the best gross score ball.

Dylan Gallivan also had a good day, in medal contention for much of his round, finishing with 79-6-73 on his card which won him a ball in the ball comp to which he added the Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd and 12th; his 8 iron on the 3rd finishing just over a metre from the cup before he tidied up with a successful birdie putt.

Peter Sherman (B grade 3rd), Sharon Harrison (12th) and Mick Coyne (voucher on 15th) also picked up Nearest the Pin trophies on the day.

Other ball comp winners were Gordon Mackay (Nett 73), Kevin Bauerle (73), Mick McAuliffe (74) and Pooch McHale (74).

Tuesday’s winners were Peter Noble (A grade) with 36 points while Gavon Armstrong had the best round of the day taking out B grade with 38 points.

Kevin Bauerle was the A grade runner up with 34 points in a count back from David Collins and last week’s winner in Pete Mangan.

The B grade runner up was Jim Hind, also with 34 points.

The Pres, Mick McAuliffe was on target off the tee taking out the Nearest the Pin trophies on the 3rd and 15th while ball comp winners were the aforementioned David Collins and Peter Mangan (with 34), along with Pooch McHale, John Neale and Graham Harrison all with 33 points.

This Saturday’s event is the prestigious Wally Shaw 4Ball Best Ball aggregate which is an honour board event so members are urged to find the best 4 ball partner that they can and be on deck at 1130am on Saturday.
