Weekly Roundup 30.7.23

SATURDAY: The weather gods (or was it the Godfather himself) smiled upon us on Saturday bringing out a good field for the inaugural Dom Cerone Memorial event.

Despite this, the course continues to dominate our golfers with most scores still sub-par with just three scores of 36 points or better on the scoreboard.

The best of those scores came from Peter Costello and Jenni Bauerle who both carded rounds of 37 points to take out B grade and the ladies’ event respectively.

Cossie put on a clinic with his driver, the former treasurer barely missing a fairway as he secured a one-shot win in B grade from Johnny Heywood who had a round of 36 points.

Jenni’s win was far more decisive with the ladies’ runner up, Helen Emery finishing five shots back with 32 points.

In A grade, President Mick McAuliffe also secured a one-point win with a score of 35 points while Nigel Dow picked up the runner’s up trophy with 34.

Ball comp winners were Gordon Mackay with 34 points, Graeme “Strings” Harrison (33), Peter Mangan (33), Judy Sutton (31) and Peter Noble (31).

Ash Kuiper picked up the Nearest the Pin for A grade on the 3rd, Peter Costello B grade on the 12th while Miles Gould won the A grade NTP on the 12th before adding the voucher on the 15th to it a few holes later.

It was great to have Dom’s sisters Carmel and Ange at presentation and the club greatly appreciated their attendance.

Tuesday’s results:

A Grade

Winner: Mick McAuliffe 34 points

Runner Up: Daryl Harrison 31 points (count back)

B Grade

Winner: G Squires 33 points

Runner Up: Peter Sherman 32

Nearest the Pins: Daryl Harrison& Peter Sherman (3rd), Mick McAuliffe (15th).

Scoop

LADIES WEDNESDAY COMP.

Not much sunshine, not many golfers and no scores in the positive last Wednesday.  It looked like a countback would determine the winner, until the last card came in - a square, for Janice Johnstone.    Tracey Wade and Jan McHale shared the score of minus 2, with Tracey having the better back nine.    No one landed on the 15th.
