Weekly Roundup 23.7.23
SATURDAY: Once again, our golfers made hard work of the Par format with only one player finishing on the positive side of the ledger on Saturday.
That golfer was Debonair David Collins who won the men’s event with 1 up off a generous handicap of 17.
David finished two shots clear of the runner up in Les Hall who finished with -1 and held out, not one but two other players in Peter Sherman and Paul Dickens, in a countback thus putting to bed once and for all the myth that countbacks never go Hally’s way.
Nat McAuliffe managed to finish with a score of even with the card which was good enough for her to win the ladies’ comp from Tracey Wade with 1 down.
The aforementioned Pete Sherman and Paul Dickens lead the ball comp winners with their scores of 1 down while Paul Kuiper and Peter Mangan also won balls with 2 down.
Nearest the Pin winners on the day were Mick McAuliffe (3rd), Trudy Denham (3rd), Peter Mangan (12th) and Paul Dickens (15th).
PENNANT: On Sunday our Pennant Team had a 3-2 win over Mooroopna at Numurkah with the match results as follows:
Paul Dickens won 5&4
Miles Gould won 5&3
Mick McAuliffe won 2&1
Daryl Harrison lost 3&2
Gordon Mackay lost on the 2nd playoff hole
Interestingly, the Pres managed to whittle a six up (after six holes) lead down to his eventual 2&1 scoreline.
TUESDAY: Earlier in the week Gavon Armstrong won Tuesday’s Stableford event with 35 points while Mick Coyne was the runner up with 34 points after getting the better of Kevin Humbert in a count back.
Balls went to Kev Humbert (34 points), Mick McAuliffe (32), Gordon Mackay (32) and Geoff Strachan (32) while Pooch McHale won the ball for Nearest the Pin on the 3rd.
Next Saturday’s Stableford event will be a memorial event in honour of long serving member Dom Cerrone who passed away on 1 August last year.
Not only was Dom a long serving member but he did a lot of unheralded work around the club so our members are urged to get along next week in memory of Dom as we look to make this one of the more prominent days on our calendar.

WEDNESDAY LADIES GOLF: After a chilly start to the day at Valley View last Wednesday, the sun shone and the wind stayed away. Yet in what seemed perfect conditions weather wise, the course proved challenging with the best score of the day being 80 Nett.
B Grade winner, Gill Thorsen finished with 106-26-80, one stroke ahead of Marie Watt, 113-32-81.
After last week's runner up result in A Grade, Leanne Busch, returned to the winning position with 95-14-81, after a count back from Bev Lyon, 105-24-81.
Judy Greer was nearest the pin.
