Weekly Roundup 16/7/2023

SATURDAY: Four Ball Multiple Stableford is a cursed format, designed to test both the strongest of temperaments and friendships.

But that was the assignment before our golfers on Saturday. Fortunately, it was an excellent day weatherwise.

In a nutshell the format requires both playing partners to multiple their scores on a hole for their combined score. Hence if either player fails to score a Stableford point then that pair records a big fat zero for that hole. Things can get really messy if one player has a four pointer for example only for his or her partner to register no points, effectively wasting the efforts of the four-point player.

Introductions over and to the results, Ash Kuiper and Peter Mangan combined best to post the pretty decent score of 69 points and they finished six points ahead of Wayne Cowley and Peter Sherman who were runners-up with 63 points.

It was an even more decisive result from the ladies with Leanne Busch and Helen Emery putting together a score of 65 points for a twelve point win from Marie Watt and Anne Hawking with 53 points.

With a spare player in the fieLd Leanne Busch had the luxury of an extra partner also teaming up with Jenny Bauerle and they lost the count back for runner up with a tally of 53 points and picked up a ball in the ball comp.

Gavon Armstrong and Alan Curnow also were ball comp winners with 53 points.

Nearest the Pin winners were Peter Mangan (3rd), Ash Kuiper (12th) and Trevor Withall (15th).

Tuesday’s event saw Daryl Harrison win A grade with 37 points from Nigel Dow with 36 while Gavon Armstrong won B grade in a low scoring affair with 32 points from Lenny Threlfall with 29.

Mick Coyne picked up a ball for nearest the pin on the third.

Our pennant team started the season with a 4-1 win over Cobram-Barooga on Sunday with the match results as follows:

Paul Dickens won 2&1

David Collins won 3&2

Gordon Mackay won 2 up

Daryl Harrison won 4&3

Miles Gould lost 3&2
