Weekly Roundup 26/3/23

SATURDAY 25/3 - OPENING DAY - PINEHURST MEDLEY

SPONSOR Kyabram & District Funeral Services

An excellent field, including guests from a number of clubs, turned out for our official season opening which was very generously sponsored by Kyabram & District Funeral Services.

Last year Mick Coyne and Sally Olle teamed up for the first time and finished as runner’s up. This year they went one better this year scoring a runaway win with the nett score of 67 7/8 and carried on that sharp form into the presentations.

After three unsuccessful years teaming up for this day, picking up at least one NAGA award, Leonie McMaster-Smith and Peter Noble finished as this year’s runners up a nett score of 72 3/8 with Leonie’s putter finishing off some good work of Nobby’s along the fairways.

Tracey Wade and Rod Breen missed out on the runner’s up trophy by a whisker with a score of 72 6/8 and they picked up a ball in the ball comp along with Leanne Busch and Kevin Humber (73 5/8), Marlene Topp and David Collins ( 74 3/8) and Natalie and Andrew McAuliffe (74 5/8).

This year’s encouragement award was won by Paul Dickens and Wanda Hacon.

Lawrie Casey was a runaway winner in the individual Stableford event with 37 points while Gordon Mackay took the runner’s up trophy in a count back from Michael Sheehan who finished with a ball as did Ian Scurrah with 31 points.

Pooch McHale picked up the A grade nearest the pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th while Craig Larcombe was the only player to hit the 12th claiming the B grade NTP ball for that hole.

A big thank you to Kyabram and District Funeral Services for the generous sponsorship of our season opener.

Tuesday’s winners were Pooch McHale (A grade) with 38 points and Jim Hind (B grade) with 39 points.

Pooch would have enjoyed his win that much more as he defeated long-time “friend’ and adversary Kevin Bauerle by one shot.

There was a three-way countback to find the B grade runner with Steve March getting the nod from Geoff Strachan and Ron Dixon (who settled for balls in the ball comp) after they each posted rounds of 36 points.

Mick McAuliffe won the A grade nearest the pin ball and John Burrows won the voucher on the 15th with an excellent tee shot.

Michael Sheehan and Ian Morrow were the other ball winners with 35 points.

Ladies Competition - Wednesday 22/3/23

Valley View women enjoyed a Stroke event last Wednesday, although the higher scores suggest that the round might not have been enjoyable for some.
Sharon Harrison was the winner in A Grade with 99-22-77 from runner up, Judy Greer with 101-23-78. Jan McHale was nearest the point.
Wendy Cox continued her excellent form to win B Grade with 113-37-76. 106-26-80 was enough to earn Gill Thorsen the runner up position. Vonnie Morris was nearest the pin.
