Weekly Roundup 19/3/23
SATURDAY: It would be fair to say that the more favourable conditions enjoyed by our morning golfers on Saturday were reflected on the leader board with only two trophy winners for the day coming from the dozen or so players that braved the wind and 38-degree temp that prevailed in the afternoon.
Coincidentally 38 was not only the peak temperature it was also the best score of the day coming from A grade winner Lee Turner and the ladies’ winner in Helen Armstrong.
Lee, who also picked up the voucher on the 15th, was a four-shot winner from Daryl Harrison who had a round of 34 points and survived a countback with Lawrie Casey and Gordon Mackay to take the runner’s up trophy.
Helen finished three shots ahead of the very consistent Clare Kerr who was runner up with 35 points.
In B grade Hill Top’s Phil Binyon scored a two shot win with 36 points while last week’s winner Frank Broucek from Bamawm backed up with 34 points and took out the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Alan Curnow.
For those wondering, Frank and Gordon Mackay were the two afternoon golfers to feature at presentation.
The unsuccessful countback participants in Lawrie Casey, Gordon Mackay and Alan Curnow were ball comp winners along with Kelly Cheong and Anne Hawking who both scored 33 points.
Nearest the Pin ball winners were Kelly Cheong, Phil Binyon and Wendy Cox (3rd) while Gordon Mackay also picked up a ball for A grade NTP on the 12th.
On Tuesday, Kelly Cheong played the round of his life to post a score 76 off the stick which netted him 41 Stableford points and a two shot win in A grade from Gordon Mackay with 39 points.
Kelly’s scorecard showed a 39-37 front-nine back-nine split with his birdie putt lipping out on the last robbing him of an even par back nine score.
The scintillating round saw Kelly drop another shot on his handicap and he played Saturday’s round off an eight handicap.
Ian Morrow was the B grade winner with 35 points from Gary Jurey with 34 while balls went to Pooch McHale, Kevin Bauerle and Steve March all with 33 points.
Pooch and Gary won the NTP balls on the third while Frank Broucek was the voucher winner on the 15th.
A reminder about this week’s season opening with Mixed Pinehurst Medley and Stableford events. The day kicks off with a BBQ lunch at 11am, assembly at 11:30 and tee off at 12:15pm.
