Weekly Roundup 24/9/23

SATURDAY: After last week’s Par scoring spree, and given the perfect golfing conditions, the numbers on the Build Pro Jack Bond scoreboard were surprisingly average in Saturday’s Stableford event.

There were two exceptions with Helen Armstrong dominating the ladies’ event with an excellent round of 40 points and finishing two shots clear of runner up Sharon Harrison who had the day’s 2nd best round of 38 points.

The best scores from the men came in B grade with Peter Costello getting the better of Alan Hausler in a countback after both posted rounds of 37 points in a very well received result.

In A grade Brad Edwards length from the tee allowed him to set up two of his three birdies for the day on the way to a round of 36 points.

The pick of his drives was on the 290 metre, par four 13th hole when he drove through to the back of the green before completing his three with a decent chip and a rock-solid putt from about 2 metres.

Peter Mangan was the A grade runner up in a countback from Kelly Cheong as they both finished one shot behind Edwards with scores of 35 points.

Ball comp winners were Wanda Hacon (37 points), Helen Emery (36), Bev Lyon (36), Craig Larcombe (36), Geoff Squires (36), Kerry Kreeck (36) and Kelly Cheong.

Shane Dyson (A grade), Ian Rathjen (B) and Helen Armstrong won nearest the pin balls on the 3rd, Peter Blackmore picked up the A grade NTP on the 12th and Geoff Strachan picked up the voucher on the 15th with a shot to within a couple of metres of the pin.

TUESDAY: Scoring was better earlier in the week with David Collins winning Tuesday’s A grade event with 38 points from the ever-consistent Pooch McHale with 36 Points in another well received result.

Meanwhile the day’s best round came from the B grade winner in Gary Jurey who had 39 points, one point better than runner up Ron Dixon with 38.

Balls went to Geoff Squires with 36 points, along with Lindsay Tatterson, Kevin Bauerle, Peter Noble and Kelly Cheong who all had rounds of 35 points.

Pooch McHale (voucher on 15th), Mick McAuliffe (A grade) and Phil Plumb (B) were the nearest the pin winners.

GRAND FINAL WEEKEND: There will be a comp on Friday with assembly at 9.30am and on Saturday the assembly time will move forward to 8am for an 8.30am hit off to allow everyone to get home for the grand final.

Only one player finished in positive territory. That honour went to Leanne Busch who continued a fine run of form to win A Grade with 2 up. Jenny Bauerle was runner up on a count back from Jan McHale, when both finished 1 down. Tracey Wade was nearest the pin.
Vonnie Morris had the second best score of the day to win B Grade, when she finished square with the card. Marlene Topp was runner up with 1 down.
