Weekly Roundup 1/10/23
TUESDAY: The week just passed produced some very good golf scores starting with Tuesday’s Stableford event with two players putting together outstanding rounds as they fought it out for honors in A grade.
You don’t lose many evets when you fire 77 off the stick with a Stableford tally of 40 points but that is exactly what happened to Mick McAuliffe who was upstaged by Peter Noble scorched around the course with a round of 80 off the stick accruing 42 Stableford points along the way.
While Mick missed out on the winner’s trophy, he added the nearest the pin voucher on the 15th to his runner’s trophy in a most profitable outing.
Jeff Carnie was the B grade winner with 35 points from Bud Thorsen who had 33 points and took the runner’s up trophy in a count back from Geoff Squires.
Ball comp winners were Gordon Mackay with 35 points, Phil Plumb (34), Geoff Squires (33), Richard Caiolfa (33) and Kevin Humbert (33).
Gordan Mackay and Geoff Squires won the nearest the pin balls on the third.
FRIDAY: A special edition Stableford event was contested on the Grand Final Friday holiday with Lindsay Tatterson playing one of his best rounds at Valley View to notch up 37 points and a two-shot win from Bud Thorsen with 35 points.
A three-way count back was required to find the ladies winner with Marlene Topp’s 36 points getting her across the line from runner up Judy Sutton and Jenni Bauerle who also had rounds of 36 points.
Saturday’s Grand Final event produced another notable round with Mick Coyne putting together an excellent score of 39 points off a ten handicap.
Mick finished two shots ahead of Les Hall and Peter Sherman (both 37 points) with the count back for runner up going Les’ way.
Von Morris was the ladies’ winner in another countback with 37 points from Nat McAuliffe.
Peter Sherman (37), Kelly Cheong (36), Wil Harrison (35) and Paul Dickens (34) won ball and nearest the pin trophies were won by Daryl Harrison (3rd), Kevin Bauerle 912th), Helen Armstrong (3rd), Von Morris (12th) and Mel Warren (15th).
This week’s event is the October Monthly Medal and Medalist of the Year decider with the usual assembly time of 1130am.
SCOOP
LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF:
It was A Grade's turn to shine at Valley View last Wednesday as players enjoyed a little extra run on the course. Janice Johnstone with 38 Stableford points finished one point ahead of Julie Neale with 37 points to win A Grade. Judy Greer was nearest the pin.
Marie Watt and Clare Kerr both finished with 34 points in B Grade, with Marie claiming the win on a count back. Nearest the pin and an almost birdie completed a good day out for Clare.
Our thanks to Ciavarella's Better Home Living for their sponsorship.
Away from home, our congratulations to Jenni Bauerle for her win in the two day Betty Senior event at Tocumwal last week.
