Weekly Roundup 15/10/23
SATURDAY: It was a week of countbacks at Valley View with four of the five sets of results determined that way.
On Saturday the Kuiper boys, Ash and Paul, went to a countback for the honors in A grade after both had rounds of 37 Stableford points.
The long and tricky countback went Ash’s way which presented him with a good news-bad news scenario as, having hitched a ride out to the course with Paul, he suddenly had to find an alternate means of getting home.
Kerry Kreeck got the better of Peter Sherman to take out the B grade event with 36 points and the ball comp was dominated by B graders with Geoff Strachan (35 points), Ron Dixon (35), Paul Dickens (34), Brendan Cornwall and Geoff Squires all picking up balls. The sole A grade representative was David Collins with 34 points.
Clearly success on the par three holes goes a long way to a good score with Paul Kuiper (A grade – 3rd), Kerry Kreeck (B grade 3rd), Peter Sherman (B grade 12th) and Ash Kuiper (voucher on the 15th) cleaning up the nearest the pin trophies.
No count back was needed for the ladies with Trudy Denham putting together a very good round of 37 points to score a decisive three shot win from Leanne Busch who had 34 points.
Von Morris won the ladies nearest the pin on the 3rd.
TUESDAY: The run of countbacks started ton Tuesday with a red-hot Peter Noble taking out A grade with 36 points from Kevin Humbert (also 36).
Different names same result in B grade with Geoff Strachan putting together an excellent back nine of 21 points on his way to a round of 36 points which gave him a comfortable win in the countback from a “gracious” Craig Larcombe.
Kevin Bauerle (35 points), Gary Jurey (35), Les Hall (33) and Kelly Cheong (33) all picked up balls in the ball comp and Mick McAuliffe and Lindsay Tatterson who won nearest the pin balls on the 3rd.
The voucher on the 15th was won by David Collins.

WEDNESDAY LADIES GOLF:
After heavy rain led to the course being closed on November 4th, our final Medal round for this season was played last week. Players were greeted by a colourful presentation table due to the generous sponsorship of Fab Flowers and set out with hope of a good round, to claim one of the pots of Spring colour on display.
In A Grade, Helen Emery, 92/18/74 was the winner, but only after a count back from Marilyn West, 95/21/74. Marilyn also claimed the nearest the pin. Lowest Scratch went to Jenny Bauerle with 91 off a handicap of 15.
With a round of 107/33/74, Marlene Topp was a clear winner in B Grade. A count back was required for the runner up. Clare Kerr, 106/27/79 was the winner from Helen Armstrong, But Helen claimed the prize for the lowest scratch score with 104 off her handicap of 25. Wendy Cox was nearest the pin. Janice Johnstone had the least putts with 26.
The three players who finished with 74 nett, then had to be separated by a count back to determine the Monthly Medal winner. Congratulations to Helen Emery who was declared the winner.
