Weekly Roundup 10/9/23

Saturday’s Stableford round saw a new face on the winner’s list with young Antonio De Pasquale notching up his first win with the massive score of 42 points.

That gave Antonio the honours in B grade by a comfortable six shot margin from another young gun in Wil Harrison who finished his round with 36 points.

Wil’s handicap has been coming down steadily and I expect Antonio won’t waste much time getting his down either in what might just be a changing of the guard at Valley View.

Some more familiar faces were atop the leaderboard with a three-way count back required to separate Peter Mangan, David Collins and Graeme Harrison who all finished with 38 points.

Ultimately the count back went Mango’s way with David finishing as runner up and Harro having to settle for a ball in the comp (though he may have played himself back into calculations as Peter Noble’s regular four ball partner…… sorry Larco!).

Another countback was required to find the ladies’ winner with Bev Lyon’s 35 points getting the nod from Helen Armstrong’s round of the same score.

Aside from Harro balls in the ball comp went to Pooch McHale with 37 points, Peter Noble (35), Jenni Bauerle (34) and Nat McAuliffe (34).

Nearest the Pin trophies went to Daryl Harrison (A grade on the 3rd) and Pooch McHale who picked up the A grade NTP on the 12th and the voucher on the 15th albeit with varying success with the putter as he made four on the 12th and birdie on the 15th.

With the course closed for green maintenance there was no golf on Tuesday.

Don’t forget the AGM scheduled for 730pm on Tuesday 19 September.

Nomination forms are available at the clubhouse for anyone wishing to nominate for the board while the Match & Handicap team is always looking for new talent.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF

While the hard working men at Valley View were coring the greens last week, the women travelled to Rich River for an enjoyable Stableford round. Despite there being many more water hazards and bunkers to negotiate, some very good results were returned by the day's winners.
Two players finished with 37 points, both in B Grade. Wanda Hacon took the winner's trophy from Gill Thorsen on a count back and also claimed the nearest the pin.
In A Grade, Bev Lyon with 34 points was the winner from Sharon Harrison who finished one shot back with 33. Marilyn West was nearest the pin.
After golf, we enjoyed lunch at Moama Bowling Club, who are the generous sponsors of our Pennant Shirts.
Following lunch we shared tales of misadventure and amusement from the day's golf. Funniest story of the day came from Clare Kerr, whose story involved, misadventures in bunkers and water hazards and the tale of the Captain's runaway buggy.
Many thanks to Captain, Helen Armstrong, who organised the day, and provided the imaginative and amusing trophies.
