Weekly Roundup 2/9/2023
A rock-solid round of 90-20-70 has propelled Paul Dickens to the September Monthly Medal, claiming the win by one shot from A grade winner Graeme Harrison who posted a round of 89-18-71.
Dicko set up win Medal win with an excellent back nine of 44 with four pars to go with his front nine of 46 which included three consecutive pars on holes two through four.
Both men could have posted better scores with Dicko missing a couple of straight forward two footers and Harro letting go of his grip on the medal finishing his round with two double bogeys after being close enough to the green on both holes to have birdies firmly in his grasp.
Peter Noble (89-15-74) and Johnny Heywood (98-25-73) were the respective A & B grade runner’s up.
On a perfect day Jenny Bauerle was the best of the ladies with 94-17-77 picking up a one-shot win from Janice Johnstone who had a round of 101-23-78.
Jenni pretty much made a clean sweep of the day picking up the ladies nearest the pin on the 3rd and the best gross score ball.
Mick Coyne (88) and Dicko picked up the men’s best gross score balls.
Balls in the ball comp went to Bud Thorsen (Nett 74), John Burrows (75), Gavon Armstrong (75), Craig Larcombe (76) and Steve Brown (76).
Gordon Mackay and Bud Thorsen took home nearest the pin balls on the 12th while the voucher on the 15th went to Helen Emery.
Apologies to our Tuesday golfers, I did have the results on my desk earlier in the week but now I don’t! I can only assume that my house keeper has inadvertently disposed of them!
A reminder that our AGM will be held at the Club on Tuesday 19 September @ 730pm.
Scoop
A conversation between Leanne Busch from Valley View and Trudy Plumb from Parkland led to our fist "Swinging for Cancer" Charity event at Valley View last Friday. The plan to have Women golfers from Parkland and Valley View join together to raise money for Cancer Research in conjunction with Daffodil Day, was motivated by our desire to support our family and friends who are currently receiving treatment after cancer diagnosis.
We were thrilled to have Kyabram Beauty Studio, Ky Remedial Massage, Open House, Bennett's Sports, Fitzgerald's Farm Fresh Meats, GTS Farm supplies, Helen Emery and Sharon Harrison as our Sponsors for the day. Valley View's Board agreed to donate all golf entries for the day to the fund and along with a very well supported raffle and a trading table stocked with donations from the Women golfers at Valley View the total raised came to $1252.40. A very pleasing result.
Thirty five golfers took to the course with the option of playing either 18 Holes or 9 holes of Stableford.
In the 18 holes competition, Jenni Bauerle was the winner with 36 points, closely followed by runner up, Judy Greer, on 35 points. In B Grade, Marlene Topp with 35 points was the winner by one shot from Pauline Kirby who finished on 34 points.
In the 9 holes competition, Chris Kelly had 18 points to win from Barb Duke who was runner up on a count back from Leonie McMaster-Smith, when both finished with 17 points.
The day concluded with afternoon tea provided by the Valley View Ladies.
We look forward to holding a similar event at Parkland next year.
Last Wednesday's competition at Valley View was also a Stableford event. Von Morris had a great round with 37 points to claim the winner's voucher from Marlene Topp who finished with 34 points.
