Weekly Roundup 27/8/2023
Saturday’s Cooper – Buckell 4BBB Stableford event was well supported with visitors from far and wide joining our members on a perfect day for golf.
In the men’s event Mick McAuliffe and Rod Breen put together the best score of 45 points with Rod telling the gathering at presentation that Mick had been the driving force behind their win continuing his excellent recent form.
Peter Noble (looking for and finding a more consistent 4 Ball partner) combined very well with Craig Larcombe as they finished two shots back taking out the runner’s up trophies with 43 points in a three-way count back from Terry Bryan & Michael Pfieffer and Nigel Dow & Alan Wright.
Jan McHale and Marie Watt were the combination in the ladies’ event with 44 points and finished three shots clear of Helen Armstrong and Wanda Hacon who were the runners up with 41 points.
Balls in the ball comp went to Terry Bryan and Michael Pfeiffer (43 points), Nigel Dow and Alan Wright (43), Wayne Cowley and Will Harrison (42), Wal Byrne and Malcolm Walter (41), Pooch McHale and Lindsay Tatterson (41), David Collins and Gordon Mackay (41), Trevor Whithall and Miles Gould (41) and Robyn Curnow and Clare Tregilgas (39).
Miles Gould played the round of the day with an individual round of 75 off the stick allowing partner Trevor Whithall a stress- free round.
Mick McAuliffe, John Neale and Jan McHale picked up Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd, Mick Gallivan won the A grade NTP on the 12th while the voucher on the 15th was claimed by Gordon Mackay.
The club extends its thanks to Phil Cooper and John Buckell for their long and generous sponsorship of this event. Their ongoing support is greatly appreciated.
Tuesday’s field yielded to the weather with no starters in the rain.
On Sunday our Pennant team fought out a tense final against Shepparton. Unfortunately, the result did not go Valley View’s way with the team going down in a tight 3-2 result with the individual match scores as follows:
Paul Dickens Lost 3&2
Gordon Mackay Lost 5&4
Mick Coyne Lost 1 Down
Mick McAuliffe Won 4&2
Miles Gould Won 3&2
A big thanks from the club to those five gents along with Daryl Harrison for representing the club and taking us within a whisker of another Pennant flag.
