Weekly Round Up 9/4/2023

SATURDAY: It was a tough day at the office for our golfers as they battle a strong, blustery south westerly in Saturday’s Stableford event and maybe it was the weather, maybe the Easter Bunny was overly generous to our members but the field was down to just one grade.

New member Nigel Dow was untroubled by the conditions though, posting a remarkable round of 41 points (handicap 25 and falling fast) and he was a five-shot winner from our April Medalist in Bud Thorsen who put together another consistent round of 36 points to take the runner’s up trophy.

Peter Noble was a further shot back and won a ball with 35 points as did Ash Kuiper (34 points), Kelly Cheong (32), Lenny Threllfall (32) and Ian Rathjen (32).

Daryl Harrison picked up both nearest the pin trophies on the 3rd & 12th with contrasting stories of success with the putter following the tee shots.

No such problems for Craig Larcombe who just claimed the voucher on the 15th with a very well thought out tee shot before making an uncharacteristically good putt to snare his birdie.

The small field of ladies that turned out found the going really tough with Tracey Wade’s round of 29 points good enough to get her across the line from Trudy Denham with 27 points.

On Tuesday Bud Thorsen followed up his medal win with a round of 35 points to take out A grade by one shot from Graham Powley with 34 points.

I mentioned earlier that Michael Dow’s handicap is falling fast and he had already dropped five shots earlier in the week after a round of 41 points on Tuesday which gave him a four-shot win in B Grade from Les Hall with 37 points.

Michael Sheehan (35 points), Ben Patten and Peter Noble all won balls in the ball comp and Nobby added the NTP ball on the 3rd to his collection.

Just some housekeeping on tee times with Saturday’s now assembly and registration @ 1130am for tee off at 1215pm and Tuesday’s assembly/registration 1030am for 11am.

If you can’t be at the course by the scheduled assembly times then please help the duty team out and phone the club to register.

SCOOP

WEDNESDAY LADIES : It was a very pleasant day for golf last Wednesday and surprisingly I heard no grumbles about us playing a PAR event. No doubt that was because some very good scores were returned.

In A Grade Julie Neele was very pleased to return to form with plus 5. Tracey Wade was also happy with her plus 3 to claim the runner up voucher. Whilst Judy Greer was happy to claim nearest the pin, the three putts that followed were definitely disappointing.
Anne Hawking was the winner in B Grade with the best score of the day, an excellent plus 6. Bev Lyon was runner up with plus 2.
The winners of the Easter Egg Competition were: Leanne Busch, Bev Lyon, Graeme Harrison and Steve March.
