Weekly Report 11/8/24

An early touch of spring at the weekend saw scoring in Saturday’s Stableford event go up a notch.

Peter Sherman and Marlene Topp set the pace winning the B grade and ladies’ comps with 40 points each while Pooch McHale wasn’t far off that mark taking out A grade with 39 points.

Meanwhile three scores of 37 points picked up the runner’s up trophies with Wil Harrison (A grade), Alan Curnow (B grade) and Clare Kerr the recipients.

Balls went to John Neale and Steve Browne (both with 36 points) and Numurkah’s David Hester with 35 points.

While the scoring was good only three of the seven Nearest the Pin trophies were claimed and they went to Rod Breen (A grade 3rd), Pooch McHale (A grade 12th) and Clare Kerr (voucher on the 15th ) but none of the B grade or ladies’ field could find the green on either the 3rd or 12th holes.

One player that did all right on the Par 3 holes without claiming a NTP trophy was Peter Noble who parred the 3rd, birdied the 9th and 15th holes and bogeyed the 12th (his only blemish on the four shorter holes). Alas, he still only managed 34 points, narrowly missing a ball in the ball comp.

Some goods scores earlier in the week with Mick Coyne winning A grade on Tuesday with 37 points from Graeme Harrison with 35 points.

B grade was a much higher scoring affair with Gary Jurey the winner with 40 points in a countback from Brenton Sheppard.

Balls went to Kevin Humbert with 34 points, Geoff Strachan (34), John Burrows (33), Kayne Compton (33) and Peter Noble (33).

Mick Coyne and Brenton Sheppard picked up the NTP balls on the 3rd.

LADIES WEDNESDAY REPORT

We were grateful for the generous sponsorship of Ian Collie Pharmacy for the “Tee Off for Breast Cancer Research” Day, which coincided with the August Monthly Medal Stroke round last Wednesday.  The proceeds of the gold coin donation go to supporting clinic trials for breast cancer, and with the warmer conditions there was a great turn out for the event.

Jan McHale had a day out and her score 95-24-71 made her the clear winner of A Grade, and of the August medal for the best overall net score of the day.  She was also nearest the pin on the 15th hole.  Runner up was Bev Lyon 100-24-76 on a count back from Jenni Bauerle 91-15- 76, who posted the best gross score in A Grade.

In B Grade, Marlene Topp 114-34-80 came out on top!  Marie Watt 111-29-82 was runner up on a count back from Judy Sutton.  Von Morris 109 had the best gross score in B Grade, and nearest the pin was Marg Smerdon.

Janice Johnstone had 29 putts, and with 11 of those on the back nine, was the winner of the putting competition on a count back from Jenni Bauerle.
