Weekly Report 4/8/2024

Saturday’s August Monthly Medal round was a closely contested affair with four players within a one- shot margin of the medal winning score and a count back required to decide the Medal winner.

That count back was fought out between Graeme Harrison and Craig Larcombe with rounds of 85-15-70 and 94-24-70 respectively with Larco’s generous handicap proving decisive in the count back

Harro was particularly stiff to miss out on yet another shirt (he has a few) with a very consistent round with a 42-43 front nine – back nine split and a red-hot putter that only made 26 strokes for the day.

Larco made his move on the back nine with pars on 13, 15, 17 & 18 as he finished that side of the course in 45 shots.

There was a large element of luck in his par on 18 though. After taking relief from under Ern Healey’s seat following an errant fourth shot, he was looking at a seven or eight for the hole. With an average lie from the drop, he chose to putt his fifth shot and watched with some delight as it honed in on the cup for par, a putt of some 20 metres. So it’s fair to say Harro was a touch stiff.

It was not all bad news for Harro though as he finished as a one-shot winner in A grade with Daryl Harrison (81-10-71) and Paul Kuiper (85-14-71) fighting out a count back for runner up; a count back that went Daryl’s way.

Nigel Dow was the B grade runner up in his first round for a while with a very good score of 90-17-73 and he also picked up the B grade best gross score ball for his efforts.

There was another countback to decide our ladies’ winner with Marlene Topp back in the winner’s list with 109-34-75 pipping Helen Armstrong who posted a round of 100-25-75.

Paul Kuiper headed the list of ball comp winners with his round of Nett 71 with other winners being Ash Kuiper (Nett 74), John Burrows (74), Peter Noble (75) and Pooch McHale (75).

Best gross score balls were won by Ash Kuiper (78) and Jenni Bauerle and the putting comp winners were Rod Breen (23 putts) and Jenni Bauerle (31).

Ash Kuiper (3rd) and Daryl Harrison (12th) won the A Grade Nearest the Pin balls, Nigel Dow picked up the B Grade NTP on the 12th and Helen Emery won the voucher on the 15th with an excellent tee shot but had some troubles converting that tee shot.

To the mid-week event on Tuesday and Peter Noble was a comfortable three shot winner in A grade with 38 points while Kevin Humbert was the runner up with 35 points.

Kerry Kreeck took out B grade with 37 points from John Neale with 34 points.

Ball winners were Kevin Bauerle with 33 points, Brenton Sheppard (32), Geoff Strachan (32) and Gary Jurey (32).

Nearest the Pin winners were Graeme Harrison (A grade), Brenton Sheppard (B grade) and Pooch McHale (15th).
