Weekly Golf Round up - 29/10/23

SATURDAY GOLF: The ageless Marie Watt upstaged our male golfers posting a brilliant score of 40 points in Saturday’s Ky Vet Clinic Black Sock Stableford event to record a two-shot win from another young lass in Judy Greer who took out the runner’s up trophy with 38 points.

Speaking of ageless Les Hall remains a feared presence on course (even if he occasionally displays some Joe Biden characteristics with his speech making) and he took out B grade with 38 points from Jeff Carnie with 37 points.

The round will have tuned Hally up nicely for next week’s club championships where he will arguably be the short-priced favorite to take out another B grade title.

I don’t know if it came up in lotto on Saturday night but the number 38 featured prominently on our leaderboard with a three-way countback required to find our A grade winner after Graeme Harrison, Brad Edwards and Mick Gallivan all submitted cards with that score.

Ultimately the House of Harrison founder emerged as the winner with Brad taking away the runner’s up trophy and Mick having to settle for a ball in the ball comp.

Other ball comp winners were Kelly Cheong with 37 points, Mick McAuliffe (36), Kevin Humbert (36), Ian Rathjen (36), Tracey Wade (36), Sharon Harrison (35), Peter Blackmore (35), Janice Johnstone (35), Geoff Strachan (35) and Helen Emery (35) in an expansive ball comp thanks to our sponsor’s generosity.

The following Nearest the Pin winners picked up balls and a pair of black socks from our sponsor:

Ash Kuiper (A grade 3rd), Brad Edwards (A grade 12th), Gary Jurey (B grade 3rd), Sharon Harrison (12th) and Jeff Carnie (voucher and birdie on the 15th).

A big thanks to Mick McAuliffe and the Kyabram Vet Clinic for their very generous sponsorship on the day which continues a very, very long association with the club.

In addition to a generous array of trophies, some of Mick’s character observations at presentations were priceless in their own right.

TUESDAY: Nigel Dow won Tuesday’s A grade event with the excellent score of 40 points and he was four shots clear of runner up Kelly Cheong with 36 points.

Nigel also won the A grade Nearest the Pin ball on the third.

It was a big week for Les Hall as he was also Tuesday’s B grade winner with 40 points in what appears to be a most un-Les Hall like miscalculation in handicap management.

Gary Jurey was the B grade runner up with 36 points in a count back from Ron Dixon though there was some consolation for Ron as he added the voucher on the 15th to his ball in the ball comp.

Linday Tatterson and Jeff Carnie both won balls with 35 points and Lindsay added a second ball to his collection finishing Nearest the Pin on the 3rd in B grade.

As alluded to earlier our club championships start this Saturday and will be contested over the next three Saturdays.

Our members golfers should note that for the first two rounds tee off will be a rolling start from the first tee between 11.30am and 12.15pm. Any queries in this regard should be directed to our Captain, Gavon Armstrong, on 0419 097 494.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF:

Last Wednesday a Stableford round sponsored by Kyabram Bakery, was played. With the drier conditions and slightly warmer weather, some excellent scores were recorded.
Helen Armstrong had the best round of the day with 38 points to win B Grade from Gill Thorsen who had 36 points. Von Morris was nearest the pin.
Janice Johnstone was the winner in A Grade with 36 points, 2 points ahead of runner up Julie Neale with 34 points. Tracey Wade was nearest the pin.
