Weekly Golf Report - 7/1/24
After around 100mm of rain since Christmas a slow track greeted our golfers for the first Monthly Medal round of 2024 and as a result scoring was a little sluggish.
The exceptions were three A graders in Paul Kuiper, who won his first medal since August 2019, an unlucky runner up in Daryl Harrison and Gordon Mackay.
Paul is looking to extend his closet after taking home his seventh Valley View Medal (yes Kuip’s your count was spot on) with an excellent round of 84-15-69 outdoing Daryl (80-10-70) by one shot while Gordon went home with a ball after a round of Nett 71.
The highlights of Paul’s round were a birdie three on the sixth and a chip in from the bunker on the 18th to save bogey, a result that ultimately was crucial in getting him across the line without having to negotiate a countback which would have gone Daryl’s way after he scorched the back nine in two over 38.
In B grade our Captain, Gavon Armstrong, was bemused to find himself as a four-shot winner with a round of 97-23-74 from Geoff Strachan with 98-20-78.
The duty team had to work overtime to find the ladies’ winner after a four-way countback from which Wendy Cox emerged as the winner with a round of 112-32-80.
Tracey Wade (98-18-80) took home the runner’s up trophy from Leanne Busch (94-14-80) and Von Morris (107-27-80).
Ball winners were Gordon Mackay (Nett 71), Peter Blackmore (74), Rod Breen (75), Kevin Bauerle (75), Paul Dickens (76), Stephen Browne (77) and Peter Mangan (77).
Paul Dickens (A grade 3rd), Rod Breen (A grade 12th), Geoff Strachan (B grade 12th), Leanne Busch (3rd) and Tracey Wade (voucher 15th) won the Nearest the Pin trophies while the best gross score balls went to Daryl Harrison, Gavon Armstrong and Leanne Busch.
Pooch McHale started the New Year in exceptional form on Tuesday with 39 points winning A grade by two points from Mick Coyne with 37.
Pooch also took home the voucher on the 15th.
Jeff Carnie was the B grade winner with 37 points from Geoff Strachan with 36.
Peter Blackmore (36 points), Lindsay Tatterson (34), Ian Scurrah (34) and Peter Mangan (34) all won balls.
