Weekly Golf Report - 14/1/23
SATURDAY: Parkland’s Alex Kydd picked up his second Valley View win in four weeks at the weekend with an excellent round of 38 points playing off a handicap cap of ten.
Alex took out A grade by one shot from Lawrie Casey who put together a round of 37 points which, although not good enough to get him a winner’s trophy, has propelled him to the top of the Summer Cup Leader Board.
Lawrie leads the Summer Cup with his current three round total standing at 108 pints, three shots clear of Jeff Carnie who led after the December round but gave up his lead on Saturday with 29 points for a three-round aggregate of 105 points.
The good news for Jeff is that (in the best three scores count format) he can put Saturday’s round aside with a good score in the February round.
Peter Sherman (103 pints), Bud Thorsen (102) and Peter Blackmore (100) round out the top five contenders with one round to play.
The very consistent Geoff Strachan won B grade with 38 points by three shots from Ron Dixon who had a round of 35 points,
In a close contest Janice Johnstone took out the ladies’ comp with 38 points with Leanne Busch the runner up with 37 points in a count back from Jan McHale.
Jan won a ball for her troubles as did Graeme Harrison (34 points), Peter Sherman (34), Wendy Cox (33), Sharon Harrison (33), Kelly Cheong (33) and Peter Mangan (33).
With the course closed for four days after another 50mm on the previous weekend there was no play on Tuesday.
PENNANT: Our Pennant team ventured to Shepparton on Sunday to commence its summer campaign against Merrigum – Rushworth.
Playing one short the team did well to break even with two wins, two losses and one halved match and, with a little luck, could have snuck a win with the results being as follows:
Lawrie Casey & Peter Blackmore won 4&3
Laurie Radley & Paul Dickens won 4 & 3
Paul Kuiper & Mick Gallivan halved their match
David Collins & Gordon Mackay lost 1 down
Ash Kuiper (playing on his own and giving up a lot of shots) lost 5 & 4
