Weekly Bowls Report 21/1/24
MIDWEEK BOWLS
> Our match back after the break was at home against Rochester on Tuesday 16th January, where two of the matches were close on the scoreboard, and the other matches’ overall score wasn’t a true indication of how close the match was.
> Bev Lyon and her team of Marilyn West, Nance Saunders and Julie Neale played B Smolenaars rink and had a real battle on their hands. Most ends were won by holding only 1 shot and a couple of 2 shot wins. Although Rochester won 20 to 8 the team was happy with the way they bowled.
> Leanne Busch skipped for Jenni Bauerle, Anne Churches and Helen Ward and were up against P Stacks’ team. Valley View had 7 on the board to nothing after 5 ends and continued to hold a one shot lead on the 13th of 9 to 8. The Rochester team rallied over the next 4 ends to pick up 9 shots to 1 and the lead 17 to 10 after the seventeenth end. With Leanne’s team picked up 6 shots to 3 over the last 4 ends but Rochester held on to take the win by 20 to 16.
> Skip Helen Emery with Marlene Topp, Helen Armstrong and Rae Hann opened slowly with Rochester scoring 6 to nothing over the first 5 ends, but the Valley View team bowled well scoring 11 to 2 over the next 8 ends and to hold the lead by 3, of 11 to 8 after 13 ends. Rochester were down but certainly not out, coming back strongly winning 5 of the next 8 ends and taking the lead by 5 shots after 21 ends of 20 to 15. Ironically Rochesters 3 teams scored 20 shots each to take the overall win 60 to 39.
