Weekly Golf Report - 6/10/24
SATURDAY: Valley View Golf Club delivered an action-packed weekend of competition as golfers showcased their skills in pursuit of both the October Medal and the prestigious Medallist of the Year titles. The October Medal turned into a heart-pounding contest, culminating in a thrilling three-way tie among Kevin Bauerle, John "Pooch" McHale, and rising star Jonty Sefton, each posting impressive net 72 scores. The excitement peaked during the countback, where Bauerle ultimately emerged victorious, claiming the top spot, while Pooch finished as the runner-up after a fierce battle. Meanwhile, in B Grade, Peter Nelson marked his remarkable return to the course after a six-month break, showing no signs of rust as he secured victory with a net 73. Ron Dixon followed closely, finishing with a net 75 in what was a closely contested match. In the ladies' division, Von Morris shone brightly, carding a net 71 to edge out Wendy Cox, who finished just one stroke behind with a net 72.
Adding to the excitement was the Medallist of the Year event, featuring past champions from October 2023 to September 2024, bringing another layer of competitive spirit to the day. Despite his earlier triumph in the October Medal, Kevin Bauerle did not qualify opening the door for Pooch McHale to rise to the occasion. Pooch’s steady and skillful play secured him the coveted title, cementing his place among the club’s elite. Young challenger Jonty Sefton continued to impress, finishing as the runner-up once more. The day featured impressive nearest-the-pin contests, with Kelly Cheong, Miles Gould, and Jenny Bauerle claiming top honors in their respective categories. Pooch continued his strong performance by securing the best men’s gross score of the day with an 83, while Jenny Bauerle captured the women’s gross title with a 93. The putting competition showcased Von Morris's skills, as she clinched the ladies' title with just 29 putts, while left-hander Kelly Cheong dazzled the crowd with a remarkable 25 putts.
TUESDAY: The excitement rolled into Tuesday’s competition, where Jonty Sefton maintained his winning form in A Grade, securing victory with 37 points. Kevin Bauerle was hot on his heels, finishing with 36 points in a tightly contested race. In B Grade, Brenton Sheppard shone brightly, leading the field with 38 points, just edging out Jeff Carnie’s impressive 37-point effort. Nearest-the-pin accolades went to Peter Blackmore in A Grade and Geoffrey Strachan in B Grade, adding to the day’s competitive spirit. The ball competition saw Peter Blackmore top the leaderboard with 35 points, followed closely by strong performances from Lindsay Tatterson 34 and David Collins, John McHale, and Alan Hausler, all posting solid scores of 32 points.
The week at Valley View Golf Club was filled with skill, drama, and unforgettable moments, leaving both players and spectators eagerly anticipating the next round of competition. With such high-level play on display, the club has set a new bar for future events, and the buzz for the next big showdown is already building!
LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF REPORT
A beautiful Spring day greeted Valley View Women for their Stroke and Monthly Medal round last Wednesday. The incentive to play well was increased by the beautiful plants on show courtesy of our very generous sponsor Fab Flowers.
Two players dominated the day’s results.
In A Grade Tracey Wade was on fire. With a score of 90-18-72, Wade was the A Grade Nett and Scratch winner, a shot within in a metre of the pin won her the nearest the pin, and with the lowest score of the day, she also claimed the Monthly Medal. To prove the theory that winners are grinners, her name was also drawn in the Café 3620 sponsored raffle.
Jenni Bauerle was the runner up in A Grade with 93-17-76.
In B Grade, it was Helen Armstrong’s turn to shine. Her score of 103-25-78 won her both the Nett and Scratch trophies and she also won the nearest the pin.
Judy Sutton was the B Grade runner up with 124-44-80.
Jan McHale won the count back from Jenni Bauerle for the least putts when both finished with 29.
