Weekly Golf Report 29/9/24
GRAND FINAL EVE - Friday
Golfers at Kyabram Valley View enjoyed an absolute belter of a day, with brilliant sunshine, pristine greens, and some seriously hot competition!
In A Grade, Kelly Cheong put on a clinic, racking up 36 points despite wiping two holes. Cool, calm, and consistent, Kelly played like a pro, securing victory and leaving the competition trailing in his wake. Meanwhile, the runner-up spot was a nail-biter, with four players tied on 35 points! Jonty Sefton emerged victorious from the countback, just pipping Peter Blackmore, Lawrie Casey, and John McHale, who were left to claim the ball comp prizes.
B Grade, however, belonged to Geoff Strachan, who blew everyone away with an incredible 41 points—the best score of the day by a mile. Bud Thorsen played his heart out for 36 points, managing to edge out new member Rob Geisler in a tense countback for runner-up honours.
Over in the ladies’ competition, Gill Thorsen was the star, firing off 37 points to claim the win, while Marie Watt was snapping at her heels with a solid 36 points to finish runner-up.
And let’s not forget the all-important Nearest to the Pin battles! Kevin Bauerle took home A Grade honours on the 3rd hole with a stunning shot, while the 3rd and 12th holes proved elusive for the other players. But David Collins saved the day on the 15th hole, landing his ball a mere foot from the pin to secure the coveted voucher.
The excitement didn’t stop there. On Tuesday, the men's competition kicked it up another notch, with young Wil Harrison absolutely scorching the course, posting a jaw-dropping 40 points to secure the win. John McHale put up a valiant fight, finishing runner-up with 38 points. In B Grade, Gary Jurey was the man to beat, claiming victory with 38 points, while Alan Hausler came in close behind with 36 points. To top it off, Wil Harrison wasn’t just content with his win—he also bagged the Nearest to the Pin voucher for good measure!
The ball comp was a tight race, with David Collins and Mick McAuliffe both finishing on 35 points, while Kerry Kreeck rounded out the winners with 33 points.
All in all, it was a fantastic week of golf at Kyabram Valley View, with the perfect combination of great weather, superb course conditions, and plenty of red-hot scoring to keep everyone on the edge of their seats!
