Weekly Golf Report 26/5/2024

A perfect autumn day greeted our golfers for the 37th Isaac Memorial 4BBB Par qualifier on Saturday and four groups in particular took advantage of the condition posting excellent scores to move into the next round.

A putting clinic from John Neale propelled he and his partner on the day, Gavon Armstrong, to the day’s best score of 8 up and that was after they scratched the first hole.

Meanwhile Peter Noble had a stroke of good fortune when his regular 4 Ball partner, Graeme Harrison, was unavailable for the day and Harro’s absence enabled Nobby to successfully team up with Craig Larcombe as they moved through to the next round with a score of 7 up.

Nobby and Larco will meet Gordon “the Golfer Mackay and “Debonair”” David Collins who finished the day with the next best score of +6.

A score of 4 up from Kevin Bauerle and Peter Mangan allowed them to claim the fourth and last qualifying spot and they will take on Nails and Gavon in the next round.

Meanwhile the ladies fought out a Stableford event which was won by Judy Greer who, put aside the mid round interruption caused by a flat battery in her cart, to post 38 points.

Jan McHale, back from a recent spell from the game, took out the runner’s up trophy with 36 points.

Nearest the Pin trophies on the day were won by Ash Kuiper (A grade 3rd), Peter Mangan (A grade 12th), Peter Sherman (B grade 12th).

John Neale won the voucher on the 15th but never got to complete his par after Gavon beat him into the cup.

A big thanks to the Albion Motors and the Isaac Family for the generous and ongoing sponsorship of this event and it was terrific to see young Billy Isaac in Saturday’s field in his first Isaac 4 Ball. Hopefully, the experience gained will see him choose better playing partners for future events.

Some good scores in Tuesday’s Stableford event with Daryl Harrison the A grade winner with 38 points from David Collins with 37.

Geoff Strachan won B grade with 36 points from John Burrows with 34 points.

JB took the runner’s up trophy in a countback from Peter Sherman who then could not even manage a ball in the ball comp with said balls going to Peter Blackmore, Mick Gallivan, Graeme Harrison and Pooch McHale, all with 36 points.

Pete Mangan won the A grade nearest the pin ball and Kevin Humbert the voucher on the 15th.

This week’s event is the June Monthly Medal with assembly at 1130am.

SCOOP

LADIES GOLF REPORT: Valley View women played their annual 4BBB Stableford for the Royal Women's Hospital last Wednesday. We are grateful for the ongoing sponsorship of Open House for this event.

Julie Neale and Robyn Curnow were our winners with the very good score of 44 points. On a day where winners were grinners, the winning pair also picked up the nearest the pins.

Runners up were Sharon Harrison and Bev Lyon, just two shots back on 42 points.

In Pennant, Division One lost 2/3 in a close match with Tocumwal at Numurkah. Division Three went down 1/4 against Tocumwal at Shepparton. Currently third on the ladder, Division Three will need to defeat Shepparton at Rich River to make the play off.
