Weekly Golf Report 2/6/24

SATURDAY: An appropriately chilly day greeted our golfers on the 1st day of winter as they contested the June Monthly Medal at the weekend.

What is more, after 30 plus millimeters late in the week, scoring was a touch on the cool side with Steve Browne picking up his second Monthly Medal shirt in around eight months with a round of 92-19-73 in a very tight medal contest.

Brownie finished one shot ahead of the A grade trio of Gordon Mackay (86-12-74), Peter Mangan (87-13-74) and Peter Noble (87-13-74) who finished in that order on the A grade leaderboard.

While he had three challengers breathing down his neck for the Medal, his nearest B grade challenger in Gavon Armstrong finished six shots back as he took home the B grade runner’s up trophy with a round of 102-23-79.

Von Morris was also a six-shot winner in the ladies’ event with a round of 99-25-74. Clare Kerr was the runner up with 103-23-80.

Balls went to Nobby with his Nett 74, Glen Laity (Nett 75), Rod Breen (75), Lawrie Casey (75), Pooch McHale (76) and Miles Gould (77).

Best Gross score balls went to Miles Gould with a gross round of 85, Steve Browne with his 92, and Jenni Bauerle with 95 off the stick.

Daryl Harrison (3rd) and Pooch (12th) picked up the A grade Nearest the Pin balls however the B grade and Ladies NTP balls and the voucher on the 15th stayed with the club.

Conditions were much better for golf on Tuesday and the scores reflected that with 38 points the magic number needed to win.

That number was posted by Peter Noble and David Collins in A Grade with the countback going Nobby’s way.

Steve March won B grade, also with 38 points, by one shot from Alan Hausler with 37 points.

Balls went to Daryl Harrison with 36 points, Pooch McHale (35), Peter Blackmore (35) and Jeff Carnie (35).

Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd went the way of Mick McAuliffe (A grade) and Gavon Armstrong (B) while the voucher on the 15th was won by Kevin Humbert.

WEDNESDAY LADIES GOLF: Our Sponsor for last week's 4BBB game was the family of our esteemed past member, Bess Woods.

On a perfect autumn day and with plenty of run on the course, excellent scores were recorded. Winners were, Von Morris and Jan McHale who finished with 46 points. Wanda Hacon and Marlene Topp were runners up, two shots back on 44 points.

Marilyn West was nearest the pin.

In the last round of winter pennant, our Division 1 team found the challenge too much against the much lower markers in the Cobram team at Tocumwal, Division 3 rose to the challenge against rival Shepparton at Rich River, to record a 3 1/2

1 1/2 win to confirm their place in the play off against Tocumwal to be played on Monday. The result will be reported next week.
