Weekly Golf Report - 24.3.24
A good field turned out on a perfect day for Saturday’s Opening Day and the traditional Opening Day Mixed Pinehurst Medley.
Ash and Erica Kuiper teamed up for the first time in this event and did so successfully going home as the winners with a round of 96 Nett 72.
They finished less than a shot ahead of runners-up, Peter Mangan and Judy Greer, who had a very good round of 87 off the stick for a Nett score of 72&6/8
Gordon Mackay and Wendy Cox also had a good score of 91 Nett 74&1/8, and they lead the ball comp winners which also featured Peter Blackmore and Von Morris (Nett 75 ¼), Paul Kuiper and Wanda Hacon (76 3/8), Mick Coyne and Nat McAuliffe (76 7/8) and Gavon and Helen Armstrong (77 5/8).
There was also a Shy Guy’s Stableford event for the bachelors which was won by Ian Rathjen with 38 points from Les Hall with 37.
Nearest the pin winners on the day were Mick Coyne (A grade 3rd), Paul Kuiper, Alan Hausler and Wanda Hacon (12th) and Peter Mangan (15th).
On Tuesday Graeme Harrison continued to chip away at his handicap posting a score of 39 points and recording a one-shot win in A grade from Rich River’s Richard Caiolfa with 38 points.
The B grade field could not match that level of scoring with Jeff Carnie the winner with 35 points from Geoff Strachan with 33 points in a three-way countback from Gavon Armstrong and Neville Vicary.
Interestingly, both winners won the Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd while balls in the ball comp went to David Collins with 37 points, Kevin Humbert (36), Gavon Armstrong (33) and Neville Vicary (33).
Kevin Humbert also took home the voucher on the 15th.
This week’s event will be a Stableford event and golfers should note that we have now reverted to the single assembly time of 1130am.
Except for selected events golfers may arrange their own groups to play earlier but (where possible) should notify the captain or duty team in advance.
