Weekly Golf Report - 1/9/24
Saturdays Event - The September Monthly Medal was played a week early due to coring of the greens earlier this week- Conditions were very bleak due to the wind and spasmodic drops of rain. Notwithstanding A grader Peter Blackmore won the medal with a very good net score of 72 and a 3 shot win over runner up Mick McAuliffe with net 75 in a countback from Paul Kuiper also net 75. B grade was a closer affair with Alan Hausler net 73 taking the winners prize in a countback from Stephen Browne. Alan looked the likely winner of the medal until Blackie's card came from the second last group of the day. The ladies comp saw Bev Lyon a runaway winner with net 74 from runner up Judy Greer with net 78. Nearest the pin results - 3rd A Grade - Mick McAuliffe, Ladies - Bev Lyon, 12th Ladies - Jo Hammond. No B grader made either green. Mick Coyne clairned the voucher on the 15th. Ball comp winners were Paul Kuiper & Corey Browne with net 75, Laurie Casey, Jack Hammond & John Burrows 76, Ash Kuiper 77 & Bud Thorsen 78. Best Gross A Grade - Ash Kuiper 81, B Grade - Stephen Browne 9O & Ladies - Joanne Hammond 96.
ln the putting competition Paul Kuiper with 25 putts beat Peter Blackmore in a countback & Bev Lyon won the Ladies with 26 putts.
Tuesdays Event saw a larger than normal field participate and rumour has it that the high attendance was due to normal organiser Nobby being away on holidays. Best score of the day was in B Grade where Ron Dixon scored 38 points with runner up Lindsay Tatterson also a creditable 35 points. A Grade was a tighter affair with Michael Gallivan the winner with 34 points from a two way countback for runner up between Mick McAuliffe & Richard Caiolfa with 33 points. Richard got the nod with Mick picking up a ball in the ball comp. Other ball comp winners all with 33 points were Steve March, Kayne Crompton, Jeff Carnie & Bernie O'Hare (Rich River visitor). Nearest the pin on 15th - Gordon 'the golfer' Mackay- Nearest the pin 3rd - A Grade - Kelly Cheong & B Grade - Nev Vicary.
Next week’s event will be stableford with 11.30am assembly for noon hit off
