GOLF - Weekly report 3/11/24

Saturday again saw excellent golfing conditions so no excuses for the scores not to match.

In the ladies we saw Jan McHale ,recovering from her battle with Kev’s Bauerle’s buggy, post a win with 36 points from Helen Emery on 35 points.

In the men ’s event, with a stable ford event replacing the start of the club championship, A Grade saw an match up of a couple of sparring partners with Peter Blackmore and Lawrie Casey going head to head. Throw Gordon “the golfer “ Mackay  and we have a three way countback on 37 points with Peter Blackmore taking the trophy from Casey and Mackay.

A different result in B Grade with an “inform “ Geoff Squires again saluting the judge with 41 points from Geoff Strachan on 39 points. Two wins in a row maybe will get Geoff in the swabbing stables.

Nearest the pins saw David Collins ,Miles Gould ( x2 ) in A Grade and Geoff ”inform “ Squires and Alan Curnow in B Grade. Jenny Bauerle took the ladies prize.

Ball winers went to Nigel “ Hell’s angel “ Dow 37,Gordon Mackay 37,John McHale 36,Paul Dickens 36,Jonty Sefton 35, Trudy Denham 34,Wendy Cox 34 and Paul Kuiper 34.

We normally don’t mention the encouragement award but apparently “ Henry Buck “ Harrison arrived primed for the club championship only to have his game thrown into disarray by the postponement of the event. All we can say is look out next week as “ beware the sleeping dragon”.

Tuesday’s event saw A Grade taken out by Mick Gallivan with 40 points from John McHale on 36 in a 4 way countback. B Grade went to Basil Ryan on 44 points from Norman Warren on 39 points.

Nearest the Pin went to President Mick McAuliffe in one of his rare appearances at the club. Ball winners were Mick McAuliffe 36,Kev “ buggy “ Bauerle 36 ,Graeme “sleeping dragon “ Harrison 36, Jack Hammond 37 and Stan March 37.Some scratchy notes as the boys must be keen to hit the 19th hole.

The all-important chicken run saw a win to Lawrie Casey from David Collins.

Next week sees the start of the men’s club championships with plenty of golfing ego’s on the line.

LADIES GOLF REPORT

Valley View women enjoyed two days of golf in very pleasant conditions last week. In the Stableford round on Wednesday Helen Armstrong continued her run of form to record 38 points for the second week in a row to take the win. Von Morris and Shirley Soares were one shot back on 37 points, with Morris declared runner up after the count back. Morris also claimed nearest the pin.

On Thursday, we enjoyed the Lally Gold Watch 4Ball aggregate Stableford event which is generously sponsored by Ann and James Lally. With players coming from across the district, clear winners were Nancy Dunn and Sonia Verlinden from Nathalia when they combined well for 75 points. Two Valley View teams finished with 71 points. Helen Emery and Judy Greer were declared runners up after the count back from the unlucky pair of Marie Watt and Shirley Soares.

Nearest the pins were won by Nola Dalton from Numurkah in A Grade and Pam Pogue from Shepparton in C Grade. As no B Grade players finished on the green, Lois Roger’s card was drawn to allocate the trophy.
