BOWLS Weekly Report 3/11/24

MIDWEEK PENNANT

Up against Rich River at home this week the team led by Graeme Topp, with Helen Armstrong, Marlene Topp and Rae Hann got away to good start leading 8 shots to no score after 5 ends. The Rich River team led by A Linquist then bounced back hard picking up 28 shots to 5 over the remaining 16 ends to run away winners 28 to 14.

Bev Lyon skipped for Marilyn West, Kerri Savva and Julie Neale, scores were tied at 6 shots a piece on the 6th end. The Rich River team led by L sharp played some great bowls over the next 7 ends picking up 11 shots to 2. Bev’s team picked up 8 shots to 6 over the remaining 8 ends including a nice 5 on the fourteenth end.

Rich River claimed the win 23 to 16.

Pete Lyon led for Kevin Broadhurst(aka Chalky), Nance Saunders and Anne Churches. The match was closely contested up to the 10th end with only 3 the difference. Rich River picked up 5 handy shots on the 11th, to lead 16 to 8. Pete’s team picked up 9 shots to 3 over the next 6 ends to be down by 2, 17 to 19. Rich River led by H Treeman scored 9 shots to none over the last 4 ends to take the win 28 to 17.

Rich River picked up the overall win 79 to 47.

Some good  bowling in our team, we were just out of luck on many occasions.

Good bowling for the next match on the 12th November at Rochester, as we have the bye for Melbourne Cup next week

 

SATURDAY PENNANT

Hot conditions at home saw the match against Stanhope  a very close contest.

Ken Black skipped for Kevin Broadhurst, Tim Robertson-Skevington and Lenny Wiseman against the rink led by G Nurse.

Scores were level with 12 shots each after 13 ends. The following 8 ends saw Stanhope pick up 9 shots to 3. Taking the match by 6 shots 21 to 15.

Graeme Topp and his rink of Dave Clavell, Frank Findlay and Rob Varcoe battled hard against K Hopners team, holding a lead of 13 to 11 after 13 ends. Stanhope bowled very well over the remaining 8 ends to hold 12 shots to 3, and the win by 7 shots. 23 to 16.

The closest contest of the day was led by Rod Donohue with Pete Lyon, Bob Greenaway and Alf Soden trying to hold off A Trists team. The scores were level 4 each after 5 ends, then again 8 each after 9. They were still locked together after the fourteenth end at 12 each. With both teams holding 4 shots each over the last 7 ends, the two teams were locked together on 16 shots each at the end of the match.

Stanhope overcame the Valley View team by 13 shots. 60 to 47.

Good matches and good bowling. Next week we travel to Moama.
