GOLF weekly report 22/12/24
SATURDAY: Scoring in the last Saturday comp before Christmas was solid rather than spectacular with only one player outdoing the handicapper.
That player was Glenn Laity who won A grade with 37 points from Steve Browne with 35 points.
In B grade a countback was required to separate Lindsay Tatterson and Peter Nelson after both submitted cards with 36 points with Lindsay getting the nod.
Jan McHale’s 36 points gave her a decisive win in the ladies’ comp with Von Morris the runner up with a score of 30 points.
Steve Browne (A grade 3rd) and Kelly Cheong (voucher on the 15th) were the only success stories on the par 3 holes.
Balls went to Les Hall with 35 points, Laurie Radley (34), David Collins (34), Mick Gallivan (34) and Kevin Humbert (34).
On Tuesday Kevin Humbert put together the day’s best round of 37 points taking out A grade by one shot from Gordon Mackay with 36 points.
Bud Thorsen was the B grade winner with 35 points from Neville Vickary with 32 points.
Neville picked up the runner’s up trophy from Peter Sherman courtesy of a countback.
It wasn’t all bad news for Peter though as he picked up a ball in the ball comp along with the B grade nearest the pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th.
Other ball winners were Pooch McHale with 35 points and Geoff Strachan (31 points) while Mick McAuliffe won the A grade nearest the pin ball.
Next Saturday’s event is Stableford (again!) and there will be a “Book” event on Boxing Day for those who have not over celebrated.
I jumped the gun last week with my Christmas wishes but there is no harm in wishing our members and the Free Press readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year for a second time.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF: A small field gathered for a pre Christmas round of Stableford on December 18th. A three way count back was required to decide that the winner was Helen Armstrong who is enjoying a run of good form at the moment. Gill Thorsen celebrated her recent return to golf as the runner up and Von Morris was the third person in the count back. All three finished with 34 points.
