Golf - Weekly Report 17/12/23

SATURDAY: A gusting southerly breeze aside Saturday presented our members with a perfect summer’s day for golf and they (and at least one visitor) cashed in accordingly.

That visitor, Rushworth’s Rob Geisler found the conditions particularly to his liking and posted the day’s best score of 4 up to take out B grade by three shots and in doing so kept himself clear of a log jam of players that contested the count back for runner up with +1.

That log jam consisted of Geoff Squires, Geoff Strachan, John Burrows, Gavon Armstrong and John Neale with the runner’s up voucher going home with Squizzy Squires while the rest of that group settled for a ball in the ball comp.

Kevin Bauerle was the A grade winner with 2 up but only had the one shot to spare with Paul Kuiper the runner up with +1 from Gordon Mackay who also settled for a ball in the ball comp.

Same scenario, different names, in the ladies’ event with Von Morris the winner with 2 up and Robyn Curnow taking out the countback with +1 from Bev Lyon who collected the last ball in the ball comp.

Nearest the Pin trophies went to Gordon Mackay (A grade 3rd), Rory Kerr (B grade 3rd), Tracey Wade (3rd), Clare Kerr (12th) and Craig Larcombe who took home the voucher on the 15th sinking his 4-5 metre birdie putt for good measure.

To Tuesday’s golf and Graeme Harrison was the A grade winner with 35 points.

It was a big week for Harro with a win on Tuesday, a new car on Friday and the NAGA on Saturday. To be fair he was clearly not himself for Saturday’s round – his fashion faux pas of a royal blue hat with a light green shirt clear evidence of that.

Mick McAuliffe was the runner up with 34 points from Gordon Mackay who had a rough week with countbacks.

Geoff Strachan took out B grade with the day’s best score of 36 points and Lindsay Tatterson finished next best with 32 points.

Gordon Mackay (34 points), Bud Thorsen (33) and Peter Blackmore (33) won balls while Kevin Bauerle (A grade 3rd) and David Collins (voucher on 15th) were the only success stories on the par three holes.

Next Saturday (23rd) will be business as usual with morning assembly @ 8am for 830am tee off and 1130am assembly for the noon hit off.

There will also be a comp on Boxing Day with assembly at 930am for a 10am tee off.

Finally, I would like to take this chance to wish all our members and Kyabram Free Press readers a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

LADIES WEDNESDAY GOLF:

With the heat policy in place, a small field chose to play in the 9 holes Stableford competition last Wednesday. Whilst new to golf, Pauline Mckenzie showed her potential by accumulating 21 points to win from Tracey Wade on a count back. Tracey again showed her liking for the third hole by claiming nearest the pin.

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. Our thanks to all our generous sponsors and to the Free Press for their continued support.
