GOLF Weekly Report 16/2/25
SATURDAY: Some welcome relief for local golfers at the weekend with a much cooler, albeit windy, day for Saturday’s Stableford event.
Of course, often the best way to beat the wind is to play earlier in the day before it gets a hold so it was no surprise to find Saturday’s A grade winner came from one of the few morning golfers in Steve Browne who had an excellent round of 38 points from a handicap of fourteen.
Steve finished a comfortable three shots ahead of Lawrie Casey who posted a round of 35 points in the afternoon session. Case is presently hitting of a mark of eleven.
In B grade the old Silver Fox, Les Hall, made a return to the winner’s list with a round of 37 points and he too finished with a three-shot win from the runner up in Ron Dixon. Ron posted a round of 34 points and took out a four-way count back from Tony Williams, Peter Sherman, and Rob Geisler to claim the runner up trophy.
Julie Neale was a narrow one-shot winner in the ladies’ comp with 37 points while Jenni Bauerle won a count back for runner up from Von Morris with 36 points.
Von lead the ball comp winners which also included Nat McAuliffe with 35 points and Kevin Humbert, Tony Williams, Peter Sherman and Rob Geisler all with 34 points.
Kelly Cheong emptied the Eagles nest after recording a rare Eagle on the par five 18th dropping a 20- foot putt from the left fringe of the green to make his three.
Kevin Humbert won both A grade Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd and 12th while Ron Dixon picked up ball for B grade Nearest the Pin on the 3rd as did Julie Neale (3rd) and Nat McAuliffe (12th).
The voucher on the 15th was won by Graeme Harrison in what was Harro’s only bright spot for the day.
TUESDAY: Bud Thorsen stole the limelight on Tuesday with a brilliant round of 40 points and recorded a one-shot win in B grade from Kevin Wooten with 39 points.
The A graders could not match that level of scoring with Mick Gallivan recording a one shot win with 36 points from Richard Caioffa who got the better of a count back for runner up with 35 points holding out Peter Noble in said count back.
Ball winners were Geoff Strachan with 36 points, Nobby with 35 and Graeme Harrison and David Collins each with 33 points.
Nearest the Pin winners were Pooch McHale (A grade 3rd) and Kevin Humbert who won the voucher on the 15th kicking off an excellent week on the Par three holes for him.
