BOWLS - Weekly report 16/2/25
MIDWEEK PENNANT
Our last week of pennant came with much excitement, only to fall short by the smallest of margins on the last end of the day.
Bev Lyon’s rink of Marilyn West, Kerri Savva and Julie Neale started with some good bowling holding a 9 to 1 lead on the eighth end. Only for Rochester to hit back holding a 5 on the ninth and following that up with 14 more shots to 5 on the next 9 ends to open up the lead 20 to 14 by the nineteenth end. Picking up a good 4 shot win on the twentieth, the Valley View team were hopeful of a good final end but the Rochester team picked up a 5 to win the match 25 to 18.
Helen Emery skipped for Helen Armstrong, Marlene Topp and Rae Hann, although starting slowly and down 7 to 1 on the sixth end, the Valley View team scored some great ends winning the next 6 ends and picking up 13 shots to no score, and the lead of 14 to 7 on the twelfth end. Rochester picked up 8 shots to Valley Views 4 over the next 9 ends but the Valley View team still held a 3 shot lead by the end of the match 18 to 15.
Jenni Bauerle skipped for Nance Saunders, Anne Churches and Helen Ward. With the score after the fourth end not looking good at 8 to 1 down the Valley View girls picked up an impressive 17 shots to Rochesters 2 to have a handy lead of 18 to 10 on the thirteenth end. Rochester picked up 6 shots to no score on the next 3 ends to close the gap to just 2 shots behind. Valley View won 6 shots on the next 4 ends to again open a lead of 8 shots. The Rochester team won 5 shots on the last bridging the gap to 3 shots, but Valley View girls held on to win the match 24 to 21.
As this was the last match to finish for the day we were holding on to the hope of an overall victory but fell short by 1 shot, going down 60 to 61, it was still a great day winning 2 of our 3 rinks.
Well done to all a great finish to the end of our season, and we will see what next season brings.
A big thank you to Bev our manager for all her hard work, and to the men for helping us out by filling in throughout the season. Also a huge thank you to our men who volunteer their time preparing our greens.
