GOLF Weekly Report 23/2/25
SATURDAY: After luck’s week’s brief respite, the weather gods served up another stinker for Saturday’s Stableford event and while there was a handful of good scores at the top of the leaderboard things fell away after that.
After missing out on a runner’s up trophy last week courtesy of a countback, Tony Williams ensured he bypassed any potential countbacks this week posting the day’s best score of 40 points and taking out B grade by three shots from Peter “Penguin” Nelson in the process.
For the mathematically challenged, Penguin took the runner’s up trophy with a score of 37 points finishing one shot clear of Laurie Radley who had a round of 36 points which netted him a ball from the ball comp.
Some pretty good scores in A grade too with David Collins, playing off a handicap of 16, getting the better of Brad Edwards (handicap 13) in a countback after both players posted scores of 38 points. I’m told from reliable sources that the feature of David’s round was his putting.
Tracey Wade also put together a score of 38 points which gave her a three shot win from runner up Leanne Busch who had 35 points.
In addition to the previously mentioned Laurie Radley, other ball comp winners were Peter Noble (34 points), Peter Blackmore (34), Daryl Harrison (33), Rod Breen (33), Julie Neale (33) and Jenni Bauerle (33).
Nearest the Pin winners were Glen Laity (3rd A grade) Brad Edwards (12th A grade), Paul Pappin (B grade 3rd), Tracey Wade (3rd) and Paul Dickens who won both the B grade NTP on the 12th and the voucher on the fifteenth.
TUESDAY: It was a big week for relatively new member Tony Williams who also won B grade on Tuesday with 38 points in a countback from Lindsay Tatterson.
Kevin Bauerle was the A grade winner with a score of 36 points from Pooch McHale with 35 points.
Ball comp winners were John Burrows with 36 points, Geoff Strachan (36), Les Hall (35) and Ron Dixon with 34 points in a countback from handful of other contenders.
Mick Gallivan also picked up a ball for A grade Nearest the Pin and Geoff Strachan took home the voucher on the fifteenth.
Next week we will interrupt the sequence of Stableford events for the March Monthly Medal which, despite intense lobbying, remains a stroke event.
