GOLF Weekly Report 12/1/25

SATURDAY: Scoring in the 3rd round of the Summer Cup on Saturday was mostly below par with only three players from a good field playing to better than their handicaps.

Two of those players in Gavon Armstrong and Paul Pappin went to a countback with 38 points each to find the B grade winner with Gavon getting the nod.

Von Morris also posted a score of 38 points and recorded a comfortable four shot win from Jenni Bauerle with 34 points in the ladies’ comp.

There was a three-way countback in A grade with Mick Gallivan, Peter Noble and Rod Breen all finishing with 34 points before Mick (who just happened to be playing in the last group in) was declared the winner with Nobby finishing as the runner up and Rod settling for a ball in the ball comp.

Other ball comp winners were Kerry Kreeck with 35 points, along with Jeff Carnie, Shannon Tucker, Glen Laity, Judy Greer and Tracey Wade all with 33 points.

Nearest the Pin trophies were won by Shannon Tucker (A grade 12th), Brendan Cornwall (B grade 3rd), Jenni Bauerle (3rd) and Sharon Harrison who picked up the voucher on the 15th.

The scoring on Tuesday overall wasn’t much better though Peter Noble, who started with four pars and a birdie in his first five holes, put together an excellent round of 40 points (playing off a 14 handicap) which was good enough to give him a two-shot win from Kelly Cheong who had 38 points from a handicap of nine.

Alan Curnow was the B grade winner with 33 points in a countback from Gary Jurey.

Kevin Bauerle, Kevin Humbert, Michael Gallivan all won balls with 34 points as did Mick McAuliffe with 33 points.

Kelly Cheong won the A Grade Nearest the Pin ball on the 3rd and the voucher on the 15th was won by Graeme Harrison.

The Summer Pennant season kicked off on Sunday and our team scored a close 3-2 win against Merrigum-Rushworth in a match that went down to the last hole.

With the match locked at 2-2 and our last pairing of Peter Blackmore and Lawrie Casey one up against the Rushworth pair of Kelly Cheong and Ian Rathjen as they teed off on the 18th hole the tension was palpable.

Fortunately, Lawrie and Blackers managed to hold their nerve with Lawrie taking them to a 2 up win with a par on the last.

The other match results were:

Miles Gould & Mick Coyne won 9&8

Gordon Mackay & David Collins won 2&1

Paul Kuiper & Paul Dickens lost 5&3

Laurie Radley & Mick Gallivan lost 3&2
