GOLF REPORT - 10/11/24
Another set of great weather days in what was a busy weekend on the hills of Valley View.
Saturday’s event was sponsored by GMCU and saw the start of the men’s club championships with all the big boys coming out to play.
Firstly in the ladies Helen Emery was a winner with net 73 from Shirley Soares on 74.
In the men’s A grade David Collins ,always a big event man, started the champs with good winning round of a net 68 from Lawrie Casey on net 70 .
On the way David also picked up the monthly medal.
In B grade Alan Hausler edged out Paul Dickens on a countback with net 71.
Nearest the pins Miles Gould ,David Collins, Ray Brereton, Paul Dickens and Shirley Soares.
Ball comp went to Kelly Cheong (71 ) Paul Kuiper ( 71)Steven Brown (72 ) Ron Dixon (73 ) Anthony Geisler (73) Kevin Humbert (73) and Jeff Carnie (74 ).
The putting comp went to Lawrie Casey and Helen Emery.
The leaders in the championship are Ash Kuiper (A grade - 79 ) and Alan Hausler and Paul Dickens ( B grade -90)
So we shall see what happens next week and where the bolters come from.
On Melbourne Cup day in the fillies saw Helen Emery and Nat McAuliffe past the post first with 65 followed by Trudy Denham and Judy Greer on 67.
The men’s saw Rory Kerr and Rod Breen winners with 62 from Paul Dickens and Alan Curnow on 64.
On Sunday the annual Valley View / Parkland challenge was held with a good field in attendance
The challenge was won by Valley View on its own track and one wonders about next year when they travel to the tricky greens of Parkland.
Individual men winners on the day were in A grade David Collins 38 points from Kelly Cheong and Paul Kuiper 36 points.
B grade went to Richard Stockdale 36 points from Geoff Squires 35 points
In the ladies A grade went to Wendy Cox 32 points from Rhonda Hacon 31 and in B grade Nat McAuliffe, in the winner’s circle again, with 36 points from Shirley Soares on 34 points.
Nearest the pins went to Daryl Harrison and Alan Curnow with Matt Squires taking a Calloway event.
There were numerous ball winners ,too many to mention. It seems the ball master got very generous.

Good to see the two clubs getting together to end a busy week.

LADIES GOLF REPORT:
Valley View players enjoyed a 4BBB Stroke event on Melbourne Cup day.
The honours for the best score of the day went to Rory Kerr and Rod Breen who finished with the excellent score of 62 Nett. Paul Dickens and Allan Curnow finished two shots back with 64 Nett to be runners up.
In the Women’s competition, Nat McAuliffe teamed with Helen Emery for 65 Nett, two shots better than Trudy Denham and Judy Greer whose 67 Nett earned them the runner up voucher.
Nearest the pins were won by Nigel Dow in the Men’s A Grade, Jeff Carnie in B Grade and Marilyn West in the Women’s event.
