Weekly Golf Report 13/4/25

FRIDAY: The weekend kicked off a day early at Valley View this week as the club hosted guests from Kyabram Parkland, Numurkah, Lockington, Mooroopna and Belvoir Park for its H&G Real Estate Annual Tournament.

Despite the turnout of visitors, it was the locals that dominated the leaderboard in both the men’s and ladies’ 4BBB events.

On a perfect autumn day Michael Coyne and Daryl Harrison playing off handicaps of 11 and seven respectively put together an excellent score of 45 which was matched by Alan Hausler (H’Cap 19) and Michael Gallivan (Hçap 13) before a lengthy countback revealed Mick and Daryl as the winners.

Mens winners - Mick Coyne & Daryl Harrison with captain Gavon Armstrong

Men’s R/Up - Alan Hausler & Michael Gallivan

It was a clearer albeit closer result in the ladies’ event with Leanne Busch and Jenni Bauerle (respective handicaps of 15 and 16) combining best with a score of 42 points. That score gave them a one-shot margin over the runner’s up in Wendy Cox and Jan McHale (handicaps of 26 and 21).

Ladies Winners - Jenni Bauerle & Leanne Busch

Ladies R/Up - Wendy Cox & Jan McHale

Balls went to Lockington pair Simon Portwine and Kevin Humbert with 43 points, Alan Curnow and Kerry Kreeck (41), Paul Dickens and Barry Scott (41), another Locky pair in Stuart Newton and Darren Carnie (39), Margo McGrath and Jeanette Adams (39), Marie Watt and Judy Greer (39) and Bev Lyon and Marilyn West (39).

Nearest the Pin trophy winners were Kevin Humbert (A grade), Lindsay Kramer (B) and Helen Emery on the 3rd, Charlie Lowe (A grade), Fred West (B) and Leanne Busch on the 12th along with Peter Mangan who converted an excellent tee shot on the 15th into a birdie.

A very big thanks to our tournament Sponsor in H&G Real Estate whose generous support helped make the day such a great success.

To Saturday’s Stableford event and Brendan Cornwall stormed around the course to post the day’s best round of 41 points taking out B grade by a lazy eight shots. I’m not sure if he played on Friday but with that sort of form he would have made an invaluable 4 Ball partner.

The second best round of the day came from the indestructible Marie Watt who won the ladies’ event with 39 points.

Pooch McHale was a narrow one-shot winner in A grade with 36 points from Grame Harrison who had a score of 35 points.

Peter Sherman was the B grade runner up with 33 points in a countback from Wagga Wagga’s Keiren Gabriel and Sharon Harrison was the ladies’ runner up with 35 points.

The scoring from our ball comp winners was a little on the light side with ball winners being Rod Breen (34 points), Wil Harrison (34), Nigel Dow (34), Helen Armstrong (34), Kieran Gabriel and Michael Gallivan (33).

On another perfect day only Peter Noble (A grade 12th) and Kelly Cheong (15th) took home Nearest the Pin trophies.

TUESDAY: Earlier in the week guests from five clubs joined us for Tuesday’s Stableford event with Mooroopna’s Travis Kreeck the A grade winner with 35 points from Pooch McHale with 34.

It was the same equation in B grade with John Neale the one-shot winner with 35 points from Alan Hausler (34).

Again, the ball comp winners didn’t have to work too hard for their trophies with balls going to Daryl Harrison, Kevin Humbert, Geoff Squires, Stuart Newton and Peter Sherman all with 33 points.

Nearest the Pin trophy winners were Peter Mangan (A grade 3rd), Mick Pell (B grade 3rd), Stuart Newton (B Grade 12th) and Pooch McHale on the 15th.

WEDNESDAY LADIES GOLF

The Stroke and Putting and Monthly Medal round on Wednesday was sponsored by Workwear Connect.

Bev Lyon won A Grade with the score of 99-24-75, just ahead of 3 players who finished with 76 Nett. Janice Johnstone was declared the runner up with a score of 98-22-76 ahead of Tracey Wade and Marilyn West. Wade may have lost the count back for runner up, but she did win the Lowest Scratch with 94 off the stick and also claimed the nearest the pin.

In B Grade, Marie Watt matched A Grade winner Bev Lyon’s Nett score with 107-32-75. Watt finished two shots ahead of Judy Greer with 102-25-77, whose 102 off the stick was the Lowest Scratch score in B Grade and she also claimed nearest the pin.

It took a count back to the last hole to establish Marie Watt as the winner of the putting competition when she and Janice Johnstone both had 28 putts.

In the final count back of the day, Marie Watt won the day ahead of Bev Lyon to claim the Monthly Medal after both finished with 75 Nett.

Next week will be a busy golfing week for Valley View Women, with 18 Hole Foursomes to be played on Wednesday 23rd followed by a 4BBB Stableford for Girgarre RSL on Anzac Day and the Wally Shaw Memorial 4 Ball Aggregate Stableford on Saturday.
