Weekly Golf Report: 20/4/25

EASTER SATURDAY: A stunning return to form enabled Mick Coyne to record a one-shot win in A grade in Saturday’s Stableford round.

Playing off a handicap of 14 Mick put together his best round for some time scoring an impressive 40 points.

While I don’t have the hole-by-hole details from his card, barring any particularly bad scoreless holes, that equates to a round of around 79 off the stick.

Hot on Mick’s heels was the consistent Nigel Dow who has worked his way down to a handicap of 14 over the last 18 months and he finished as the A grade runner up with 39 points.

In B grade a countback was required to separate John Burrows and Geoff Strachan who both posted rounds of 36 points with the count back going John’s way.

Wendy Cox seems to have featured in this report just about every week for the last couple of months and on Saturday she posted another win with 35 points from Lynn Canavan who had a score of 34 points.

Ball comp winners were Kelly Cheong with 36 points, Glen Laity (36), Graeme Harrison (35), Marie Watt (33) and Gill Thorsen (33).

Peter Blackmore (3rd) and Miles Gould (12th) were the A grade Nearest the Pin winners, Von Morris (3rd) and Tracey Wade won the ladies’ NTP trophies, Kelly Cheong won the voucher on the 15th and circling back the B grade field could not find the target on either the third or the twelfth.

Our Easter Egg Raffle winners were Brendan Cornwall, Rory Kerr, Judy Greer, Rob Geisler, Wendy Cox and Graeme Harrison.

This weekend’s golf kicks off on Friday with the Girgarre RSL 4BBB Stableford event with assembly and registration at 1130am for a midday hit off.

Another four ball on Saturday with the annual Wally Shaw Memorial 4BBB Stableford which is an honour board event. As usual, assembly and registration are at 11.30am.

Michael Gallivan ended up taking a drop after suggestion he should play it where it lies!

Ladies Golf Report:

Valley View Women’s Par event last Wednesday was sponsored by Jen’s Fine Food and Coffee. A Grade winner Marilyn West finished 3up to record easily the best score of the day. Helen Emery finished square to be runner up. Wanda Hacon was nearest the pin.

The best in B Grade was Marlene Topp who finished 2 down. Vonnie Morris who finished 3 down was runner up and also nearest the pin.
