Bowls - Weekly report 28/1/24
MIDWEEK BOWLS
>>> Rich River at home on Tuesday was a much closer matchup than the first time we played. Going down by 44 the first time and almost pulling off a great win this time around only going down by 2 63/65.
>>> Bev Lyon’s rink gained the experienced Graeme Topp as a last minute replacement, and I am reliably informed he acquitted himself very well, along with Nancy Saunders and Julie Neale they faced J Hockens team. Bev’s team started extremely well holding 19 to 4 on the thirteenth end. On the fourteenth they got a big fright when Rich River grabbed 6 shots, but the Valley View team continued to close out the match picking up 7 shots to 5 in the remaining 7 ends to claim the win 26 to 15.
>>> Leanne Busch’s team of Jenni Bauerle, Anne Churches and Helen Ward had a close match against J James’s team. After being down 5 to 12 on the tenth end Leanne’s team grabbed 11 shots to Rich Rivers 2 over 6 ends to lead 16 to 14. Unfortunately they didn’t pick up another win, where Rich River collected 9 shots over the last 5 ends to take the win by 9. 25 to 16.
>>> Helen Emery skipped for Marlene Topp, Kevin Broadhurst and Rae Hann and played H Freeman’s rink. This proved to be a very close match, level at 5 all on the fifth. Valley View only picked up 4 shots to Rich Rivers 15 on the next 10 ends. With the Valley View team down on the fifteenth 9 to 20, they then very excitedly and magnificently pulled out an amazing 8 shot hold on the 16th to narrow the margin to 3 shots. Unfortunately not able to make up the difference they went eventually went down 21 to 25.
>>> Well bowled to all.
>>> Next week is our last match due to the bye the following week. We play Stanhope at Stanhope. Good bowling everyone.
>>> SATURDAY PENNANT
>>> Our first team led by Bob Greenaway with Frank Findlay and Geoff Beamish had a big task against M Wests rink. After 13 ends with the score 4 to 16 it was a tall order. Only managing 5 more shots on 2 ends and 17 from the Stanhope bowlers the match ended with Stanhope up 35 to 9.
>>> Rod Donohue’s team of Kevin Broadhurst, Tim Robertson-Kevington and Alf Soden had a tough match with K Hoppners team. Only trailing by 1 shot at 9 to 10 on the twelfth each team score 8 more shots over the remaining 9 ends to still be down by one at the finish. 17 to 18.
>>> Leanne Busch’s rink of Jenni Bauerle, Dave Clavell and Helen Ward played P Harris and his team. The Stanhope team opened up a small margin in the beginning, holding 6 shots to 10 on the tenth end, then continuing to add 16 more shots to Valley Views 7 over the last eleven ends. Taking the win from Valley View 26 to 13.
>>> The overall result was 79 to 39.
>>> Next week is against Moama Steamers at Moama.
