Bowls - Weekly report 10/12/23
MIDWEEK BOWLS
> The beginning of the second round match up against Deni RSL was only slightly better for us than our first up meeting. Deni currently in 3rd place displayed consistency and precision, outclassing 2 of our Valley View teams and claiming the win 92 shots to 33.
> Helen Emery skipped for Marlene Topp, Rod Donohue and Rae Hann and proved to be a worthy opponent for C Taylor’s rink. Although down on the sixth end when Deni picked 6 shots and led 8 shots to 3. The Valley View team showed they weren’t giving up without a fight, picking up 13 shots to 2 over the next 9 ends to hold a 6 shot lead of 16 to 10 on the fifteen end. The Deni team then over the remaining 6 ends turned the tables in their favour out scoring the Valley View team with 11 to 3 shots and claim the win by 3 shots 21 to 19. Good match.
> Bev Lyon’s team of Marilyn West, Nance Saunders and Julie Neale weren’t in the match against J Tontas team only having 6 shots to 24 on the thirteenth end and managing to pick up only 3 more shot to 10 over the remaining 8 ends for the win to Deni 34 to 9.
> The team skipped by Leanne Busch with Jenni Bauerle, Kevin Broadhurst and Helen Ward also found T Tontas team too consistent, picking 3 shots to 25 by the thirteen end and managing 2 to 12 more over the next eight ends to go down 37 to 5.
> Next match is against Moama Steamers at Moama who currently sit in second place.
> Good bowling.
> SATURDAY PENNANT
> Playing Tongala at home had mixed results for the Valley View team with one win, one square and a loss. With the end result of a win to Tongala 68 to 52.
> Ken Hasties team of Rob Varcoe, Tim Roberts-Skevington and Geoff Beamish had a tough match against E Hosking’s team, not managing to have a score on the board until the seventeenth end where the picked up 1 shot and Tongala already having 28. With four ends to play the Valley View picked up 2 shots on eighteenth and Tongala 3 more shots in the remaining 3 ends. Going down 3 to 31.
> Rod Donohue’s team of Kevin Broadhurst, Helen Ward and Alf Soden combined very well against B Visiarinis team, with the scores level after thirteen ends the Valley View team held some big scoring shots of a 4 and two 5’s over the next four ends to hold a handy lead of 23 to 13. Over the remaining four ends Valley View picked up 5 shots to 3 to run away winners 28 to 16.
> Graeme Topp’s rinks again playing one short with Leanne Busch third, no second, and Dave Clavell lead put up a great effort to square the match against T Booth and team.
> Although only one the difference in Tongala’s favour of 13 to 12 on the thirteenth end and drawing level on the sixteenth end of 15 each, Valley View only held one shot to Tongala’s 6 over the next 4 ends. Tongala opened up a lead of 5 shots by the 20th end. Playing the last end Graeme’s team bowled well to hold onto a fantastic 5 shots to end the match level.
