Weekly roundup 1st October 22

A perfect spring day greeted an excellent field that included several visitors for Saturday’s October Medal round.

In a tight race Ed McQuienn claimed his first Valley View Monthly medal with a rock-solid score of 80-10-70 as he carded 40 off the stick each nine in a round that featured two birdies and seven pars, six of which came on the back nine.

Ed finished one shot clear of September Medallist Mick Coyne who posted a round of 83-12-71 and took the A grade runner’s up trophy in a count back from Brad Murray with 87-16-71.

Mick Coyne may have missed out on back-to-back medals but he did claim the 2021-2022 Medallist of the year title from a field that included John Heywood, Geoff Squires, Pooch McHale, Peter Mangan, Graeme Harrison and Miles Gould.  A one-shot margin in B grade also, John Burrows the winner with 98-25-73 from Kerry Kreeck (98-24-74) and Mick Steven (93-19-74) with Kerry picking up the runner’s up voucher in a count back.

Helen Emery was the ladies’ winner with 92-18-74, again by one shot, from Clare Kerr who had a round of 106-31-75.

In a decent sized field balls in the ball comp went to: Brad Murray (Nett 71), Paul Newman (72), Ash Kuiper (72), David Collins (72), Miles Gould (73), Mick Steven (74), John Heywood (75), Graeme Harrison (75), Robin Quinn (75) and Pooch (75).

A brilliant round of 76 off the stick from Ash Kuiper netted him the best gross score ball while Mick Steven and Helen Emery won the B grade and ladies’ best gross score balls respectively.

Trophy winners on the Par 3 holes were Brad Edwards (A grade – 3rd), Paul Newman (A grade – 12th), Mick Steven (B grade – 12th), Janice Johnstone (3rd) and Debonair David Collins won the voucher on the 15th.

There was no golf from Tuesday due to the rain.

Weather permitting the Thursday night chicken run will kick off tomorrow (Thursday) night with assembly at 430pm for a 5pm tee off. If you wish to play but can’t make it by 5pm please phone Peter Noble on 0438 521 775.

Finally, our condolences go out to the family of Dot Bennett who passed away early last week. Dot was a long standing and very popular member of the club and she will be missed greatly.
