GOLF Weekly Report & Club Championships
Saturday was another double whammy with both Saturday stroke competition and final round of the Mens Club Championships. We will start with Saturday stroke competition where Graeme ( Henry Buck) Harrison played a very good round taking out the A Grade event shooting 82 off the stick with a net score of 69. He was closely followed by the runner up Jonty Sefton shooting 84 net 70. It wont be long before this young chap will be off single figures.
ln B Grade lan (Tommy) Scurrah journeyed over from Lockington to steal the day shooting 97 net 66 to win by 8 shots from new member Jack Hammond with 91 net 74. There will be more to be written on Tommy's round further on.
ln the ladies event Bev Lyon scored 97 net 73 to win comfortably from Tracey Wade who collected the runner up prize with 94 net 75.
Nearest the pin results - 3rd A Grade - David Collins who had a jackpot on the hole collecting an additional dozen golf balls which he admirably shared with his playing partners. B Grade - Peter Sherman. On the 12th - A Grade - Graeme Harrison & B Grade - Rory Kerr. Unfortunately the ladies went missing on both holes. On the 15th Rod Breen took home the voucher.
Ball comp winners were Ash Kuiper 71, Dylan Gallivan 72, Mick Gallivan 73 and Kelly Cheong & Gordon Mackay both with 74.
We would like to thank Lincoln and the boys from Drummond Golf Shepparton for their very generous support, sponsoring the final two rounds of championships.
Back to the Mens Club Championships which are played over three rounds of stroke play with the best gross score being the winner.
Ashley Kuiper started the final round two shots clear of Kelly Cheong in what appeared was going to be a very close contest. However Ash had other ideas and shot a great round of 75 off the stick to finish with a total gross score of 234 to win by ten shots from Kelly on 244. A big congratulations to Ash whose win has made it five club championships to date.
There was also an A Grade champion and B Grade champion which are based on the best net scores over the three rounds.
A Grade was a very close contest with Kelly Cheong taking home the winners trophy with a net score of 214 closely followed by David Collins on 215.
B Grade was a boilover to say the least. The final grouping of four players vying for the win all had a shocker and lan (Tommy) Scurrah who started the day eight shots behind played a blinder to shoot net 66 to win by five shots with a total net score of 223 from Jeff Carnie, a fellow Lockington compatriot with net 228.
ln the junior rank Jonty Sefton was a resounding winner with a net score of 268 and it will not be long before he is giving Ash a run for his money in the major ranks
LADIES GOLF REPORT: Just one grade was required for last Wednesday’s Stableford round. Judy Greer was the winner with 35 points. Her playing partner, Shirley Soares was runner up on a count back from Wendy Cox with 34 points.
