Weekly Roundup 4.6.23

SATURDAY: Young Wil Harrison has already notched up a decent share of wins in his short time at the club and on Saturday he picked up his first Monthly Medal shirt.

What’s more he did it in style with an excellent round of 99-32-67 which gave him a comfortable five shot win for the medal and a seven-shot buffer as the B grade winner.

If he can continue to squeeze in a regular round of golf into his football and cricket schedules then I’m tipping this will be the first of many medal wins.

His nearest challengers were the A grade winner in David Collins who had a rock- solid round of 89-17-72 and A grade runner up Peter Mangan with 86-13-73.

Kerry Kreeck was the B grade runner up with 98-24-74 but then the scoring started to fall away with balls going to Pooch McHale with Nett 76, Rod Breen (76), Les Hall (76), Craig Larcombe (77), Paul Kuiper 77 and Lenny Threlfall (77).

Janice Johnstone was a clear winner in the ladies’ comp with a round of 94-22-72 five shots in front of runner up Sharon Harrison with 100-23-77.

Ash Kuiper (82), Kerry Kreeck (98) and Janice Johnstone (94) won the best gross score balls while Nearest the Pin trophies went to Mick McAuliffe (A grade 12th), Ian Rathjen (B grade 3rd) and Sharon Harrison on the 15th.

TUESDAY: The wintry conditions took a toll on Tuesday’s field with only enough players for one A grade, though those that turned out were fortunate enough to evade the drizzly rain that fell around the region.

Kevin Bauerle was the winner on the day with 34 points from David Collins who tuned up for Saturday’s medal round with 33 points to take home the runner’s up trophy.

Balls went to Mick McAuliffe, Peter Noble, John Burrows and Graeme Pawley, all with 32 points.

Kevin Bauerle and Graeme Pawley won the Nearest the Pin balls on the 3rd and 15th respectively.

A belated Happy Birthday to our President Mick McAuliffe who notched up another candle on the birthday cake on Saturday, a fact which he kept from his playing partners on the day. Nor was he letting on just how many candles were on this year’s cake.

A fun fact on the birthday boy - Mick shares something in common with both the current US President and his predecessor.

Like Donald Trump he is an accomplished single figure golfer, and the odds are (about to chalk up his eighth year at the helm) he will still be President of Valley View when he turns 76.

Big shout out to our dedicated volunteers braving a very chilly morning this week to fix a recent leak near the 2nd green.
