Weekly Round Up 26 November
A perfect spring day and an immaculate Valley View course greeted our members and visitors for the first round of the Summer Cup on Saturday and this was reflected in some excellent scoring.
After a couple of unusually quiet weeks Kelly Cheong took an early lead on the Summer Cup board with 40 points.
Off a handicap of 11 that equates to a round of 79 off the stick (give or take) and was good enough to take out A grade by two points from Peter Mangan with 38 points.
A mid round flat battery in his cart failed to put Geoff Strachan off his game and he took out B grade with 38 points by one shot from Des Partington who continued his excellent championship form to finish as the runner up with 37 points.
Another golfer scoring well is Wendy Cox and she repeated her win from a fortnight ago (no ladies event last week due to the rain) with 36 Stableford points from Helen Emery who finished as the runner up with 35 points in a count back from Marlene Topp.
Balls in the ball comp went to Les Hall with 36 points, Ed McQuienn (36), Alan Hausler (36), Marlene Topp (35) Brad Edwards (35), Gavon Armstrong (35), Kerry Kreeck (34), Kevin Humbert (34) and Peter Noble (34).
Nearest the Pin trophy winners were:
Bud Thorsen (A grade 3rd), Mick McAuliffe (A grade 12th), John Burrows (B grade 3rd), Geoff Strachan (B grade 12th), Helen Emery (3rd) and Tom Holman (15th).
A big thanks to this week’s sponsor the Bendigo Bank Community Bank and we thank Director David Blake for taking the time to represent the bank at presentation.

David Collins (35 points), Alan Curnow (35) and Gary Jury (34) won balls in the ball comp while Mick McAuliffe (3rd) and David Collins (15th) picked up the nearest the pin trophies.
A big thanks to Sally Olle who has revamped our Web Site after some technical issues recently. Hackers trying to get an advanced copy of the golf report perhaps??!!

In A Grade, in the daily competition, Club champion, Leanne Busch was the scratch winner with 90. Leanne, also had 27 puts, but lost that prize on a count back. The highlight of her day however, was her win in the straightest drive competition, apparently her first in her many years of golf.
